Overview

The topics addressed in this module are all tools that will allow the user to enhance a basic simulation. Each topic adds substance to the simulation. The need to communicate with other stakeholders will determine which of these tools you will find most useful.

The topics are presented independently using aspects of the basic simulation that has been created. As each functionality is addressed, it is captured in the PPR Tree and the growing robustness of the process simulation will be evident.

About Path Finder

The Path Finder command permits the user to find the most direct route devoid of collisions for the execution of a move activity. The Path Finder command will look at the information regarding other resources and parts, evaluate the planned move, and make modifications without eliminating the recorded moves. To perform this procedure the PPR Tree must bevisible and a process loaded. The Move Activity should already have been created with a start and end point.

More about Path Finder can be found in the On-Line documentation

About Automatic Synchronization

The Auto Synchronization function allows the user to jump the simulation to any point that is desired. It synchronizes everything in the simulation to the selected referenced activity point in the process tree. Modifications made with this functionality activated mean that the world data model automatically reflects the modification. This is a very convenient function for editing sophisticated simulations involving multiple, simultaneously related tasks and operations.

More about Automatic Synchronization can be found in the On-Line documentation

Activate Automatic Synchronization – Procedure

1 Locate the Simulation toolbar and click on the Automatic Synchronization icon.

The Automatic Sync box appears.

The default condition for Animation is to be off; this is more efficient because it will set the simulation to the selected point. If Animate is activated, the simulation will run from the beginning up to the selected point.

The Automatic Sync Options are used to define the amount of detail used when the Animate option is selected. Click on the Automatic Sync Options icon to view the available options. The options will be addressed in subsequent topics so for now be aware of the active options, then close the box.

2 Expand the Process node to reveal the activities.

Select a process activity to be modified.

From the Automatic Sync dialog box, it is possible to modify a move activity or delete it altogether.

4 Select Modify Activity.

5

6

Select a move activity to change by double clicking on the trajectory or selecting it from the PPR tree.

Use the Recorder toolbar to make any changes to the move and record them.

The delete icon will remove a move activity without the need to open it.

The advantage of Auto Sync over Editing or Deleting a Move Activity is that the entire simulation (world data model) is updated and synchronized to this modification. Expert users frequently turn on this function when making their original move activities. Inst.Inst.

About Create Viewpoint Activities

Viewpoint activities give detail and flexibility to the simulation for reporting and visualization. Without viewpoint changes, the simulation will run from whichever point of view is current in the world, and will not change during the entire simulation sequence. This condition makes it difficult to see some parts of the simulation in action. The ability to create viewpoints permits the user to change the viewpoint reference at selected times so that a more useful observation of the simulation sequence can be presented.

About Visibility Activity

A visibility activity permits the user to hide selected geometries so that one element can be examined. For example, if you need to view the CarburetorAssembly, you can quickly create a visibility activity to temporarily hide the Air Filter Assembly, thus allowing better visibility of the Carburetor Assembly. The duration of the modification can be specified or made indefinite. It also allows the color and opaqueness of the geometry to be changed.

Text Messaging permits the user to create text messages within the simulation. This functionality allows the user to script out to a dialog box any particular messages that are important to whoever views the simulation. Text messages are extremely effective for communicating design inefficiencies or work instructions. They can be placed anywhere in the simulation as generic and specific messages and can be moved or manipulated via the Pert chart.

Create Pause and Delay Activities

4 Enhance the Simulation

About Pause and Delay Activities

Both Pause and Delay activities are used to control the timing of the simulation without stopping it. A Pause Activity is used during the simulation to create a pause, and continues until the user chooses another option. A DelayActivity will simply cause the Simulation to hesitate for a specified amount of time. These functions will insert an opportunity for examination or discussion of a specified point in the simulation. For example, inserting a pause at a critical clash point can be useful for facilitating a discussion since the clash can be examined closely for an extended time.

More about Pause and Delay Activities can be found in the On-Line documentation

About Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks in the simulation allow the user or viewer to access additional information that is relevant at the identified point in the simulation. When a hyperlink is added to a simulation (and the simulation options are set to PAUSE) the simulation will pause at the hyperlink node so that viewers can read the hyperlinked information. For users who prefer to have the simulation options set to continue, a Pause Activity can be inserted so that viewers have time to access the hyperlinked information.
