Hello Delta Americas,

Hard to imagine that August is almost coming to end and Sum-mer soon too!

It’s great seeing new faces around the Fremont office and hear-ing about new hires elsewhere throughout the Americas region joining our Delta family. Anticipation is in the air for a busy re-mainder of the year and preparations for 2018 and the future are just kicking off.

You’ll soon read in this issue of the Delta Digest that we’ve re-cently received numerous awards - including our Delta Ameri-cas Headquarters receiving an Honorable Mention recipient of the Center for the Built Environment (CBE)’s Annual Livable Buildings. Through the Breez Team’s relationship with Green Builder Media, Delta Electronics has been awarded their highest editorial award as an Eco-Leader.

Our new Americas CFO, Charles Bailey, recently sat down for a one on one interview providing in-sight into his past experiences, current integration within our region and things to come.

Delta’s Mexico Team, DMX, share a challenge that they overcame and turned it into a great success story all the while envisioning and emphasizing Delta’s Brand Promise: Smarter. Greener. Together.

The latest Green Building Feature article provides insight into two hidden green features of our Americas Headquarters that extend “beyond the walls” of the building.

Delta’s HR team has been hard at work adapting and bringing a new asset to make our Americas operations seamless and ultimately more efficient.

Please do enjoy these remaining days of the Summer season and let’s welcome our new Delta fami-ly members with open arms!

Take care and Happy Reading,

Mike Gazzano, Marketing Manager

In 2016, DPF employees took part in the Center for the Built Environment’s (CBE) Occupant Indoor Environ-

mental Quality Survey. As one of the top scorers in the survey, Delta’s Americas headquarters was one-of-

six facilities selected as a finalist for CBE’s Annual Livable Buildings Award.

This award serves as a mark of distinction for

commercial buildings and is unique in that it in-

cludes the preferences of the building’s occupants

in its selection criteria. This award has been given

to buildings that demonstrate livability, which CBE

defines as exceptional performance in terms of

occupant satisfaction, resource efficiency, and

overall design.

As a finalist, we were asked to provide an award sub-

mittal that would be reviewed by a jury of CBE industry

partners, members of academia, and other building

industry leaders. The submittal included a project nar-

rative, photos, energy data, and comments from the

design team.

At the end of July, we were informed that the jury

had selected Delta’s Americas Headquarters as

one-of-two Honorable Mention recipients for

CBE’s 2017 Livable Buildings Award. Although

we did not win, it is a huge honor to be recog-

nized by CBE and the jury for our efforts in creat-

ing one of the leading livable buildings in the

world.

Congratulations to us all!

“A building that achieves exceptional energy use is

only made possible by the commitment and dedica-

tion of all parties involved, among them particularly

the owner/user, to create a project that is efficient in

its design, construction and operation. The recogni-

tion by CBE provides tremendous encouragement to

the users, designers, and builders, as we keep mov-

ing forward together on the path to sustainability and

green environment.”

As Delta grow in the Americas region, we are constantly seeing new faces in the office and new names on emails. We don’t al-

ways have the luxury of time to meet them as we go about our busy lives, so it was my honor and pleasure to interview our newly

appointed Americas’ Region CFO, Mr. Charles Bailey, when he was visiting from Texas a few weeks ago. I hope you will enjoy

reading this piece as well as enjoy meeting Charles!

R: Tell us about yourself, where you grew up, where you went to school, family, etc.

C: I grew up in the suburbs of Plano, TX, not too far from where the current Eltek office is - most of which was farmland while I was

in school. I went to Texas Tech for my undergraduate study, and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from there.

I’m married and I have two boys - the oldest just turned 14, and the younger one will be 10 in December.

R: Wow, what are you doing in accounting?

C: After school I did engineering for a few years at a chemical company, I did project engineering, and I got my MBA while work-

ing. After my MBA I wanted to try the business and finance side out and that’s when I transferred to Texas Instruments. I worked

in the Netherlands in their European Logistics center, at a big warehouse outside of Amsterdam for a year, and after that went into

corporate finance for quite a while. After that, I worked in many different operational financial roles.

R: So you really enjoy doing finance vs. the engineering side…

C: I enjoy it all! I enjoy finance, operations; I like to see how the different parts of a company work.

R: Like how the pieces of a puzzle come together…

C: I found that having done a little bit of all those things helps me see and evaluate the company. That may be more than you

wanted to know!

R: Very cool!

C: My MBA is from the University of Houston, Clearlake campus.

R. So you pretty much grew up and stayed in Texas all your life?

C: Other than that year that I spent in the Netherlands, yes. I’ve almost always lived in the Dallas and Houston area, and another 4

½ years in west Texas.

R: Are you a Dallas Cowboys fan?

C: Yes, I am a Dallas Cowboys fan, but it’s been rough sledding for the past 23 years…

R: How long have you been with Eltek? And did you start out in Finance?

C: I’ve been with Eltek since 2008, starting as the controller for the U.S., and then that expanded to the Americas.

R: What are the most important decisions that you face daily as a leader in our organization? Delta, I mean.

C: (thinking…) I guess the biggest challenge here is keeping all of the stakeholders happy. I solid line report to Judy (Wang) on the

finance side and dotted line to M.S. (Huang). Within M.S. there’s Yao and all the business folks and while I’ve not had a lot of in-

volvement with the business side yet, certainly balancing priorities and what would make each party happy is an important part of

what I do.

R: Do you think the cultural differences play a major role in your balancing act?

C: Yes, I would say there’s some cultural differences for sure…but in my TI life I worked with Asian companies so that part is not

new. The decisions typically revolve around resource allocation amongst all of the competing priorities I would say… which people

to put on what project, and what projects to prioritize - those sorts of things.

Also managing my time on the different priorities. We have the Brazil integration happening, we just moved Delta Mexico ’s ac-

counting responsibility from the Fremont office to Eltek Mexico’s team, and we are managing a lot of the functional transitions

with the DPC folks here in Fremont. And in between all of this stuff there are the corporate issues.

R: Let’s take a break from business. What is the most interesting thing you want people to know about you? You are real tall

so you probably played football didn’t you?

C: I played tennis actually, all the way through college.

R: Were you ranked in school?

C: I was ranked #18 in Texas, and ranked in the country. I played the US National hardcourts which at the time was held in Burlin-

game, just across the Bay. So when I was 18 I was here competing in the national tournaments.

R: Very cool! Do you still play?

C: A little bit - my nieces play, so when I get the chance I like to play with them. I got my kids playing golf, so usually I’ll play golf

with them whenever I have time.

R: How would you convince someone to do something they don’t want to do?

C: Convince that they need to do it! Or that they actually want to do it. The diplomacy is getting what you want while making the

other party think that they get what they want. You have to convince them that they need to do it.

R: What if you get someone who’s a hardhead like me?

C: Hmm…there are always ways to convince.

R: What are 3 things on your bucket list that you hope to check off within 5 years?

C: Let’s see… places to go, Machu Picchu in Peru is on the list. Taking the kids to Europe is another - we’ve been to a lot of places

but we haven’t been to Europe or Asia…

R: Any place in particular in Europe?

C: My wife lived in France for a while so probably some places in France where she lived so they can see that… Germany, kind of all

over Europe, maybe England. We’ve been pretty lucky and have gotten the opportunity to do a lot of travelling since we’ve had

kids. I’ve probably been to over 40 countries in total. I used to be more active too - the whole marathon thing, I’ve done a few of

those…

R: Wow you’ve crossed off everything!

C: At some point I would love to an ironman. I don’t know if I will ever be able to do it, but that would be cool.

R: What do you enjoying doing while you are not working? I’ve gathered that traveling is probably one of them.

C: Traveling with the family, spending time with my wife and kids. Both of my kids play golf and baseball so I like do that that with

them.

R: Isn’t it real hot in the summer time in Dallas to play golf?

C: Nah, you’ve just got to sunscreen and drink a lot of beer or Gatorade. Hiking, cycling… lots of outdoor activities.

R: What’s your handicap?

C: 10 plus or minus, ish.

R: Have you played at Ruby Hill with M.S.?

C: No I’ve not, although it’s definitely on the list. My kids like to come to so we’ll have to do that.

R: Cool. We’re done. See? Easy!

C: Ok, good enough?

R: Perfect! Thank you so much for your time…Let me just get a photo!

The training-workshop took place on the 27th. & the

28th. of June 2017 at the Eltek’s factory in São José

dos Campos , around 70 kilometers of Sao Paolo,

Brazil.

The 25 participants of this event were majorly sales-

man from USA / Mexico / Peru / Colombia / Argenti-

na and Brazil.

The members of the training team were David Gei-

rant (Global Director, Data Center Business),

Mat Heneghan (Product Manager Datacenter Power

Solutions) and John Regus (Sales Director, PSBG).

The 380VDC is an innovation the industry designed over many years and in 2015 turned into a new

global standard for direct current power. The Datacenter and Cloud Data Services industry are

looking to use higher voltages to meet the increased IT demand. Telecom, Industrial and now High

Performance Computing and Open Computing utilise a VDC based approach. Cooling and tradition-

al IT still use VAC for power.

We are expecting that this 380 VDC technology will increase in the number of IT, Telecom and Util-

ity products offering interfaces to it.

This training helped us to have a better understanding

of customer´s challenges and how can we solve their

major bottlenecks with the new Eltek’s solutions.

With the workshops we were able to create strategies

for each country and how are we going to attack this

segment and who will be the targeted customers short

& mid term.

Now that Eltek, had access to a wider portfolio with

Delta solutions, and that the UPS is a product that fits

perfectly in this Datacenter market, the training in-

cluded a UPS’s presentation, from small to large ca-

pacity, with box, monobloc, modular and the scalable

DPH range to start including those in the offers.

Background

Since the early days, DMX has taken challenges with the philosophy of commitment with our brand promise: Smarter. Greener. Together. As an example we are excited to present the success story of one of our larger projects (more than 2.3 MUSD) using our control solutions (PS and PLC) for an en-ergy management company. DMX intervened providing a service of monitoring and managing the energy through a cloud solution based SaaS using business intelligence to provide operative perfor-mance plans, in order to improve operations and detecting and analyzing HACCP to implement con-tinuous improvement for customers. Challenge Overcome

At that time, the customer was looking for an industrial controller, which met their requirements and

he invited us to participate. Due to the business model being based on a cloud service, the main

challenge of the application was not just to monitor and control the variables such as lighting, but al-

so allow program updates into the controller remotely through their cloud service. The main issue

was that the customer wanted to use their cloud to upload a file into a repository and then, automati-

cally, each site along the country would take the file automatically and uploaded to the PLC.

This was not able to be accomplished through the software tools we had available, because it is not allowed to make it automatically; it needs an operator to select the PLC and upload the program. This requirement was the most important because it became the factor for deciding to use Delta PLC. We won the spec over Schneider and other brands because we were able to find a way to pro-gram the PLC through the RS-232 port without using the program, create an instruction list using a TXT file (which was uploaded to the cloud) and then it was downloaded by a software in each site at the same time, executing the list of commands automatically reprogramming the PLC. We sold over 2000 sites installed all over Mexico.

Bumps on the road

Winning projects is really important for us, but the long term relationship with our customers could be

a little bit more important. One of the key factors to build this kind of relationships is the post-sale

service, this is critical to maintain and grow the relationship trust in the brand and its capability to

support large scale projects. This project is also an example of support and teamwork not just inside

Delta but also with our customers, demonstrating we are always there for our customers to support

them.

One year after this project started running, we released a firmware version with some troubles on

the temperature modules used that made the PLCs for this project stop, affecting the process of the

customer and the analytics of the system. This was a critical problem detected in sites all over the

country endangering our customer's contracts and causing a big increment on the support cost

which also endangered project continuity. We as DMX team worked together with the PLC BG and

our distribution channel in order to solve it. We all worked together to pick the faulty units (over 1200

spread across all the country), upgrade them and replace them always trying to reduce the impact

on the data collection of the system and without interrupting the end user’s operation.

In business, as in life, we always will find opportunities which will test our temperance and tenacity. We shall not be afraid to take them, just keep aware that the opportunities may be in risk. We may be prepared or not for them, but if we always work as a team and give our best, we are confident we can find a solution for every bump on the road. Smarter. Greener. TOGETHER.

Although our building itself incorporates many unique and innovative systems, it is important to note

that the features do not stop at the walls of the building; there are remarkable aspects of the land-

scaping as well. Most notable, aside from the rainwater harvest-

ing tank, are the bioretention areas and bioswales.

These areas treat storm water runoff from our site prior to

flowing into a drain or seeping into aquifers. Bioswales are land-

scape features designed to remove sediment and pollutants from

surface runoff water. The majority of the bioswales are located

between the rows of parking stalls with a few along the southern

and western property lines. The typical bioswale construction on

our site consists of a trench approximately three feet deep, lined

with a plastic sheet. At the base of the trench and on top of the

liner is a four-inch perforated PVC pipe which is covered with six

inches of gravel. On top of the gravel is an eighteen-inch layer of

treatment soil.

As storm water runoff flows from the parking lots, it is di-

rected towards the bioswales through a gradual slope. The water

is then slowed by cobble stones placed on the slope before it en-

ters the bioswale. Once the water enters the bioswale, it slowly

seeps into the soil. A grass seed mix or sod, depending on the

area, was

planted in

the soil so

that as the water filters through the soil, the

roots of the plants remove a majority of pollu-

tants (motor oil, gasoline, etc.). After filtering

through the treatment soil, the water then en-

ters the gravel layer, which acts as a secondary

filter. Whatever water remains collects in the

perforated pipe and then flows into the storm

water system.

In addition to the bioswales, we have two large bioreten-

tion ponds on our site. One is located at the corner of the prop-

erty, near the intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Cushing

Parkway. The other is the circular pathway near the main gate.

These areas are low points on our property and much larger

than the bioswales so can hold much more volume. In fact, the

pond at the corner of the property serves as an overflow for

when the rainwater harvesting tank exceeds capacity. This ar-

ea in particular is similar in construction to the bioswales, ex-

cept that instead of the water being filtered down and flowing

into the storm water drainage system, the water slowly seeps

through the plant material and soil and then into the under-

ground aquifers.

The circular path is a hybrid. It is still a low point on the

property, so in the event of major rain, this area will collect wa-

ter before flooding the rest of the site. The difference is that at

its lowest point (along Fremont Boulevard), a plastic-lined bios-

wale was installed.

The green features of our site extend beyond the physi-

cal walls of the building. During the design and construction

phases of the project, we strived to incorporate as many green

features as possible. These landscape features are physical

examples of Delta’s brand promise of Smarter. Greener. To-

gether.

HR News

Have you noticed the HR team working behind closed doors, huddled together with scrunched foreheads,

muttering gibberish in front of their computer screens, and coming out only to scrounge for snacks and cof-

fee? We’ve been trying our best to serve the team and extensively extend our working hours. We wrangled

in IT and Finance to help tremendously. So, what’s going on?

Well, comrades, we’re working super outrageously hard

implementing *drumroll* Workday! Workday is a cloud

based applications provider for services such as human

capital management and payroll. It will replace ADP and

will work in partnership with OA to deliver a user friendly

experience to you – our team members, managers, and

new hires effective later this year.

Implementing Workday means managers will be able to

make staffing changes without using paper approval

forms. When it comes to hiring on a team member, for

example, then managers will be able to initiate the hiring

process and obtain necessary approvals via Workday.

Managers will also get their hands on onboarding to get

their new hires connected right from the start. There will

also be clear visibility into their organization’s profiles.

New hires will get an introduction from their managers

via Workday and will have the opportunity to complete

all their onboarding online rather than printing page after

page of new hire forms.

Our non-exempt team members will be able to input

their hours into the system rather than filling out paper

timecards. Managers will then approve hours via Work-

day and the data will magically feed into our Payroll.

We’ll be able to effectively utilize the power of the sys-

tem’s automation. Also, our payroll will move to bi-

weekly when we go live.

Moving forward in an environmentally friendly direction is what we’re all about here at Delta. Workday will

help us further this green mission of ours while making our business processes more efficient. While there is

still a mountain of work to accomplish before its launch, we know it will all be worth it. More details and train-

ing will be forthcoming!

Antarctica: I am planning to go there for my 50th birthday in 2020, and I plan to ice dive there too.
