Challenge of demographic change

Profound changes in society- Demographic change is a real

challenge for Finland- Today there is a big structucal

change going on in organizing social and health care services in Finland

Political pressure- New models to integrate public,

private and third sector are needed

- Eservices and mobile services - New preventive methods of social

and health care- Promotion of health and wellbeing

Developing social and health care services and structures

The three main questions when developing social and health care services and structures in Finland:

- How to organize elderly care in near future?- How to prevent social exclusion?- How to promote citizen’s own duty of their wellbeing

NEW OPENINGS ARE NEEDED

- New housing solutions for elderly –multi-professional collaboration

- Different actors in elderly care –networking

- Innovations providing services for elderly- new thinking

- Old people’s role in society- cultural change

- How to increase understanding for the problems with the ageing

- How to make working with elderly people more attractive especially among young students

Finnish universities of applied sciences

The mission of the universities of applied sciences is to provide professional higher education geared to the requirements and development of working life, to support one's professional development, and to carry out research and development that serves the education, the work life, regional development and industry and commerce of the region.

North Karelia University of Applied Sciences (NKUAS) was founded in 1992 among the first universities of applied sciences in Finland. • 5 multisectoral and interdisciplinary centres (from 1.1.2009)• 20 Bachelor’s programmes (2 instructed completely in English)• 3 Master’s programmes

• 4000 students• 400 teachers and other staff

• All campuses in Joensuu • Main funding from the Ministry of Education• Maintained by the City of Joensuu
