From the Pastor

Dear Community of St. Augustine; We are getting to the end of the Liturgical Year and the readings of the Word of God compel us to reflect on important themes of our faith. This Sunday, Jesus speaks about the end of time, about the time in which this world will exist no more. Jesus tells us: “Of that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Mk 13: 32). We Christians are the heirs of eternal life, of a much better world which we know will not end. What should we do? We should be ready; we should strive to live in sanctity, to live the values of the Gospel, and to trust the mercy, the love and the forgiveness of God. Last weekend I spoke to you about “Gratitude and Generosity”; about how our offertory collections have diminished, and I asked you to prayerfully consider increasing your weekly contributions and to maintain this compromise for the entire year. I want to express my gratitude to those who have already committed themselves to increase their contribution. May God reward you for your generosity. To those who were not present at the time, I ask you to take one of the cards on the pews to make the commitment to generously administer the goods the Lord gives you. Please, think about how you can help your parish. All of us, together, are St. Augustine and, together, will make the difference in our community. This Thursday, 22nd of November is Thanksgiving Day. I invite all of you to join me in this celebration and actively participate in the bilingual Mass at 10:30am. The best way to give thanks is through the Eucharist which is an act of thanksgiving. During this week, make time not just to prepare Thanksgiving dinner, but to reflect on all the blessings God has granted you and your loved ones, and to give Him thanks for them. May God continue to bless you abundantly always! And may you enjoy a Thanksgiving Day in peace and with happiness!

Querida Comunidad de San Agustín, Estamos llegando al final del Año Litúrgico y las lecturas de la Palabra de Dios nos hacen reflexionar sobre temas importantes de nuestra fe. Este domingo Jesús nos habla del fin de los tiempos, de cuando este mundo deje de existir. Jesús nos dice: “Nadie conoce el día ni la hora. Ni los ángeles del cielo ni el Hijo; solamente el Padre”. Mc 13, 32 El cristiano es heredero de la vida eterna, de un mundo mucho mejor; sabemos que este mundo terminará. ¿Qué debemos hacer? Estar preparados, esforzarnos por llevar una vida de santidad, viviendo los valores evangélicos y confiando en la misericordia, el amor y el perdón de Dios. El fin de semana pasado les hablaba de la “Gratitud y la Generosidad”. Les decía cómo nuestras colectas del ofertorio han disminuido y les pedía que, poniéndolo en oración, consideraran aumentar sus donaciones semanales y mantener ese compromiso durante todo el año. Quiero agradecerles a los que ya se han comprometido a aumentar su contribución. Dios les multiplique su generosidad. Aquéllos que no estuvieron con nosotros, encontrarán en los bancos las tarjetas para el compromiso de administrar los bienes que nos da el Señor. Por favor, tomen una y piensen cómo pueden ayudar a su parroquia. Todos somos San Agustín. Juntos, haremos la diferencia en nuestra comunidad. Este jueves, 22 de noviembre, es el Día de Acción de Gracias. Los invito a venir a esta celebración y participar activamente en la Misa bilingüe que ofreceremos a las 10:30 de la mañana. La mejor manera de dar gracias es por medio de la Eucaristía, la cual, en sí, es una “Acción de Gracias”. Durante esta semana hagan tiempo no sólo para preparar la cena del Día de Acción de Gracias, sino también para pensar en todas las bendiciones que Dios les ha concedido a ustedes y a sus seres queridos y expresarle su agradecimiento. ¡Que Dios continúe bendiciéndolos abundantemente siempre! ¡Disfruten un Día de Acción de Gracias en paz y felicidad!

In Our Parish (En Nuestra Parroquia) PANS DISTRIBUTION This weekend the pans will be distributed should you wish to use the pans for desserts. Desserts should be brought back to the Parish Life Center next weekend Saturday, November 24th between 4:30pm—7:30pm or Sunday 25th by 2:30pm. The Coalition for the Homeless will be grateful for any and all donations. Thank you all for your generosity!

VIGIL OF ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Friday, December 7th beginning with Mass at 9am until Saturday, December 8nd ending with Mass at 9am. “Now this is the message that we have heard from him and proclaim to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5

ADVENT WREATH During the Advent season families should spend time together preparing for the approaching celebration of the birth of Christ. An Advent wreath can be a great focal point for family prayers and holiday celebrations. Advent wreaths and candles are now available at the gift shop. Stop by and get yours!

ADVENT GIVING TREE As we prepare for the coming of the Christ Child, we reach out to those in need with the St. Augustine Parish tradition of the Advent Giving Tree. This year we are sharing our blessings with the following agencies: Boys Town, Christian Sharing Center, Eastbrooke Gardens, Hope CommUnity Center, Life Choices, Pathways to Care, and St. Francis & Damien House. Our Advent Giving Tree will be in the Narthex from November 24th through December 16th. We ask the parishioners to: Choose an ornament from the tree Each ornament is labeled with a gift item Purchase your gift and attach the ornament to gift Bring your unwrapped gift to the church Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
