Deni Show – A time to shine

Congratulations to all students who submitted entries for last

Clarence 17 Happy Birthday Mrs Tubb!

Mrs Tubb celebrated a very special birthday with

her class last week.

District Swimming Carnival Deniliquin North Public School had 28 students represent the School on the

Hill, at the Deniliquin and District Swimming Carnival in Hay on Friday March

1.

The day ran swimmingly with all students giving their best effort in the pool.

Ben Dunmore was successful, making it through to the next stage in 50m

Butterfly. Charlie Bull just missing out on a spot in the district team, coming

third in the 50m backstroke.

Megan Lawson came home with wins in the

girls: 200m individual medley, 50m Butterfly,

50m Backstroke, and 50m Freestyle; also get-

ting a 2nd in 50m breaststroke. Megan

smashed two records on the day. The 50m

Breaststroke record, originally set in 1997, un-

fortunately won’t stand as she came second.

However, the 200m individual medley record,

originally set in 2010, is now officially Megan’s.

Furthermore, Megan was awarded the Junior

Girls District Champion.

Ben and Megan will now represent Deniliquin

and District at the Regional Swimming Cham-

pionships, held in Albury on March 13.

BASKETBALL TRIALS

Ten selected year 6 students trav-

elled to Moama last week, hoping to

secure a position in the Deniliquin

District Basketball team. If determi-

nation was a factor, all would have

made it through. However only Har-

ley Hicks was lucky enough to make

it in to the side. We wish Harley all

the best on the court in the coming

weeks.

Riverina Tennis Knockout

After making it through to the Deniliquin team, Charlie Paton and Ben Dunmore competed

in Griffith on Thursday February 28 for a chance to represent the Riverina team at the next

level. A team of 5 was selected, Charlie coming in at 6th, meaning he is a reserve.

NORTHIES WIN CRICKET For the first time in over a decade, the mighty Northies have tasted victory in the State Knockout cricket competition, defeating their Southern cousins 125 to 78. Batting first, the Northies amassed a healthy total of 125, with Riverina squad member, and skipper, Charlie Paton a standout, scoring 42 before retiring. Paton was well supported by Henry Knox (14no), Ben Dunmore (7), Jack Murray (7) and Charlie Bull (6). Wally Hughes did his job as opener, collecting 4 runs, and Andrew Smith and Isaac Behsman middled a few good balls. South bowler, Blake Marshall had a day to remember, snaring 6-18, including an elusive hat-trick. The South chase began slowly, and after 13 overs the team had crawled to 23. Needing a boost in their run rate, big hitter Sam Pereira (24no) came to the crease, and delivered, but the Northies stuck to their guns and cleaned up the tail, to register a great result. For the Northies, Paton was again in good form with the ball, taking 3-8 with his spinners, and was well supported by Ben Dunmore (2-6), Jack Murray (1-6), Isaac Behsman (1-13), Andrew Smith (1-17) and Harley Hicks (1-3). Toby Grimwood, Hughes (2 catches), Hicks (2 catches) and Angus Lawson looked sharp in the field. The Great Northies will now play the winner of the Tocumwal v Finley match, in the next round. The team would like to thank Will Murray and Andy Paton for their assistance with transport, as well as South teacher, Rob Fajlks for his organisation, and Jonty Tubb for umpiring.

DNPS VIP Playground Award Winners

Well done to the following students who last week received an award for exemplary conduct in the playground.

P&C Matters February 2019 Welcome to our first P&C Matters for the year, fantastic to see lots of new fac-es and hope you enjoy a great school year at Deni North. Throughout the year there will be occasions like the upcoming Family Movie night (date to be con-firmed) where you can meet others in our school community. Over the school holidays, the P&C completed the purchase and the installa-tion of the new adjustable netball/basketball rings. The committee seen the benefit of including all children (regardless of size and age) to enjoy this activi-ty and with our fundraising throughout the year we finally have it installed - a massive thank you to Tony Campbell and his team. Our canteen Manager, Maureen is always on the lookout for more helpers - just serving over the lunch break would even be a fantastic help. Another thought is changing your favourite lunch order day to another day other than Friday, so it evens out over the week. Over the next few months, our canteen will be incorporating healthier options onto the menu - (with the input of both parents and kids) so stay tuned for some fantastic yummy food. The Sporties raffle on a Friday night has raised over $2400 and I am always looking for someone to help me for an hour, or even if you and a friend would like to run it, please let me know. Keep a look out for our Bulb fundraiser which will be coming home over the next few weeks. Please ask your families, friends and neighbours if they would like to purchase some beautiful flowering bulbs. Our AGM is on March 26th where we hope to fill our President and Treasurer positions. Let us know if you would like more information and come along and express your interest at the meeting. We welcome with open arms anyone who would like to fill these positions, is only for a 2 year period and you will be very well supported. Last week, 5B went out to discover what

one kilometre looked like in distance.

Using our trundle wheels we estimated

how many times it would click when

measuring one kilometre. We soon realised

that each revolution equals one metre. In

groups, we mapped out a 100m course in our books and used

witches hats to map out our course in the

playground.
