Denise Jimenez-D’Oleo, who coor-dinated Spanish-language programs for the archdiocesan Family Life and Respect Life offices, died Aug. 12 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx after battling breast cancer. She was 56.

“She had a profound impact on all whom she met and served, and our staff especially here in the Family Life Office will miss her deeply,” said Kathy With-er, director of the Family Life Office.

“Denise often expressed how hum-ble she felt that God called her to serve him in the Spanish programs ministry here in the Archdiocese of

New York…She always worked to be faithful to his call.”

Denise worked at Family Life office, 2003-2004, when she and her hus-band, Dr. Maximo D’Oleo, returned to their native Dominican Republic, where she was involved with faith formation groups. She again served at Family Life, beginning in 2008, when she and her husband moved back to New York. They were both leaders in the Catholic Marriage Movement, serving the Hispanic community by organizing formation and congresses on marriage preparation and the pro-

life mission. In the 1980s and 1990s, the couple

served as leaders in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Domini-can Republic, where Denise worked as a school psychologist.

Born in San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic, Denise was the oldest of four children. She held a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychol-ogy, and a master’s in family therapy.

She died in the presence of her husband, co-workers, relatives and

friends after reciting the Divine Mer-cy Chaplet.

Survivors include her husband, a phy-sician in Queens, and her mother, Fro-sina G. Salomon, her brother, Jose Julio Jimenez, and two sisters, Ingrid Jimenez and Paddy Jimenez, all of whom reside in the Dominican Republic.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 16 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church in the Bronx. Burial took place Aug. 23 at La Puerta del Cielo Cemetery Park in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Sister Patricia Egan, O.P., a teacher in the archdiocese for 34 years, died Aug. 24 in Siena Hall at Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 82.

Sister Patricia taught at Aquinas High School, the Bronx, 1977-1993; Rosary Academy, Sparkill, 1970-1977; St. Helena High School, the Bronx, 1965-1970; Albertus Magnus High School, Bardonia, 1961-1965; and St. Rose of Lima School, Man-hattan, 1956-1958. She also served in St. Louis and New Jersey, and

worked at Dominican Convent.Born in the Bronx, she entered the

Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1953 and professed final vows in 1960. She earned a bachelor’s degree in educa-tion from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill, and a master’s degree in math from Manhattan College, the Bronx.

Sister Joanne Deas, O.P., who served as administrator of Dominican Con-vent in Sparkill for 23 years until last year and also was principal of Our Lady of Grace School in the Bronx, died August 21 in Siena Hall at the convent. She was 82.

She was principal of Our Lady of Grace, 1970-1977, where she taught, 1960-1962. She also taught at St. Rose of Lima, Manhattan, 1967-1970 and 1955-1960, and St. Paul, Valley Cottage, 1962-1967.

Sister Joanne worked in Dominican Convent’s finance office, 1987-1994. She served as treasurer of the Domin-ican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Ossin-

ing, 1984-1987, and business manager at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, 1977-1984.

Born in Mount Vernon, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1953 and professed final vows in 1960. She was formerly known as Sister Theresa Anne.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, and a master’s in supervision and administration from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 28 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill. Burial was in St. Agnes Cem-etery, Sparkill.
