It has certainly been a busy start to the term with the ANZAC Day march in town and our special

We have walked the Cross Country course ready for this Friday and will be completing some

learnt.

This term we will be studying different climates of the world as well as learning about places

throughout the world in our Geography lessons. Our unit for Science is Melting Moments and our PD/

Health focus is Action Packed and we are looking forward to Athletics for sport.

Learning support has changed this term as Ms Boyle joins our class for guided reading and literacy

lessons on Monday, Tuesday and Friday morning, while Mrs Saunders will be taking a group of

learning support students. The class is continuing work with SSP in literacy – I will keep you posted

about a parent information session.

PARENT HELPERS

We have been overwhelmed by the response from

parents and carers to volunteer at our Cross Country

for your support with the events that we hold for the

DPS students. Your contribution is appreciated by

the Staff and of course the children.

CROSS COUNTRY

Our Cross Country carnival is this Friday. Students will be leaving school at 11.20am to walk to the

Denman Football oval ready to start by 11.30am. Please note: the carnival has been pushed back to

start later with the hopes the course will dry out. Students aged 8, 9 and 10 will complete a 2km

course while students aged 11 and 12 will complete the 3km course. Good luck to all the runners!

Thank you to all the parents who have offered to volunteer their time on the day, your help is

essential for the running of the carnival. All parent helpers will receive a note today.

CHESS CLUB

We were thrilled to welcome back our Chess extraordinaire Mr Alan Sommerville to Denman Public

School yesterday. We had many students attend our first Chess lesson for the year and it was great to

see so many dedicated players give up some of their lunch break to learn new moves under the

guidance of Mr Sommerville. If you are interested in learning Chess we will be holding weekly lessons

supervised by Mrs Druitt on Mondays and Tuesdays in the School Hall at lunch time. We hope to see

you there.

WELCOME MR SOMMERVILLE

TOO SICK FOR SCHOOL?

Sometimes it's hard to know if your child is really coming

down with something or just suffering a bout of Monday-itis.

For safety's sake, if your child seems unwell you should

always keep them home from school and seek medical

advice.

However, if they miraculously recover by 11:00am, ready to

race around the backyard, keeping them in bed all day

may send the message that staying home isn't nearly as

much fun as going to school.

Either way, our Too Sick For School? chart included with

today’s newsletter will help answer your questions about

common childhood illness and how long sick kids need to

miss school.

PLEASE NOTE: This information has been supplied by NSW Health and is not intended to replace a visit

to your doctor if anyone in your family is unwell.

HEAD LICE

We have had several cases o head lice reported this week.

Frequently after school holidays, students are found to have head

lice. Please check your child or children for evidence of head lice

and nits. The school will continue to monitor any problems with

regular checks. The only way to eradicate such a problem is to be

diligent.

Action required by parents

Please check your child as soon as possible and re-check

regularly.

Report any infestation to the office.

Please treat the hair with a suitable product and remove all

nits.

Follow the product’s instructions strictly otherwise the

problem may continue.

Wash all bedding and caps etc.

TISSUES

As the winter season approaches more students

may experience runny noses during class. If each

student could bring in a small box of tissues to share

with their school friends it would be greatly

appreciated.

Thanks from your class teachers
