President’s Message By: Cheryl Cooper
September brings cooler weather and turning leaves!
I feel the year winding down and can’t believe it. Can you?
October is quickly approaching. Our October meeting will take place on October 22, 2015, at Oakmont Country
Club. This meeting will be a business meeting and ELECTIONS for the 2016 officers. Based on the most current
information I have, we will be voting to install new officers for the President Elect, Secretary and Treasurer
positions. As I am sure you have figured out, we are not having our September meeting at Oakmont Country
Club due to the full day seminar. I hope that many of you take the opportunity to attend this seminar as it is an
incredible bargain – wonderful speakers, great topics, lunch, and snacks for a great price. Regarding the
September meeting: It will be a short meeting, without lunch provided, so the meeting will be at the
Courthouse. During that meeting, our Membership Chair, Sunnie Palmer, will announce the candidates who
have been nominated, or have declared their desire to run for a particular office.
President Elect, Melody Brackeen, is already hard at work to prepare for 2016. Please keep in mind how you
would be interested in serving within DCPA. Are you interested in serving on a committee? Or, chairing one? It
is rewarding work and is invaluable in promoting our positions within the legal community and community at
large.

Birth Announcement
Congratulations to member Lindsay Nixon on the birth of her beautiful daughter, Sadie Nixon. Sadie was born 8/14/15, she weighed 7lbs 3oz and was 19 1/4 in long.

Minutes
1. President Cheryl Cooper called the business meeting of August 27, 2015 to order at 12:18
p.m. at Oakmont Country Club. President Cooper welcomed 16 attendees, consisting of 13 members and 3 guests.
OLD BUSINESS:
2. President Cooper asked for a vote on the July 2015 meeting minutes. A motion for
approval was presented by Melody Brackeen and seconded by Amanda Silva. The motion carried by unanimous vote.
3. President Cooper asked for a vote of approval for the July 2015 Treasurer’s report. A
motion for approval was presented by Michelle Beecher and seconded by Christy Rogers. The motion carried by unanimous vote.
NEW BUSINESS
4. President Cooper announced the association’s participation in a Food Drive in conjunction with the Denton County Bar Association through December 20, 2015 and various drop off locations.
5. CLE Chair Michelle Beecher introduced guest speaker Fon Laughlin. Ms. Laughlin gave a
presentation regarding consumer financial laws that are now regulated by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
6. Guest Omar Sharif’s name was drawn for a door prize.
7. There being no further business, President Cooper adjourned the meeting at 1:04 p.m.
