HAVE you registered for the ‘Access yourHealth Records’ online service available atboth Haughton Vale and Thornley House

Surgeries? For those of you that haven’t I want toshare my experience of how excellent this servicecan be!Firstly, it’s so simple to register, you can find the

information you need to help you complete theregistration process on their website atwww.htmc.co.uk Or if you need help you can getinformation and guidance from reception at thesurgeries.I registered for the service at the Haughton Vale

surgery about five years ago, I use it regularly and Ihave found it to be invaluable. The time and energysaved in booking an appointment is remarkable, andit’s the same ordering repeat prescriptions.

Accessing these day-to-day services online makeslife much simpler. But there is so much more to theservice that it’s worth registering so you can access itusing the internet connection available now at mostlocal libraries. If, like me, you have several long-term medical

issues, access to your medical records can help youto understand your illness and the treatment you arereceiving. The service allows me to monitor any testsI’ve had and their results without having to wait to seea doctor. Both Haughton Vale and Thornley House Surgeries

are making the most of the internet to provide aneven better service to us, the patients. As well asproviding access to health care records, bothsurgeries provide a wealth of other information ontheir website at www.htmc.co.uk For exampleinformation on:

STJohn Fisher PrimarySchool joined in wholeheartedly with Queen

Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubileewith a week of activities linkedto this very special occasion.Throughout the week the

children learnt about the Royalfamily and the Queen’sCoronation. They held a ‘Designa Crown’ competition andenjoyed a lovely royal lunch! On the Friday, all the children

came to school dressed in red, white and blue, which matchedthe school entrance which hadbeen decked with red, white and

blue bunting since the start ofthe week.To conclude the celebrations,

Councillor Margaret Downscame in to plant the DiamondJubilee Royal Oak tree. Everyschool was given an Oak tree toplace, which had originally beengrown on the Queen’sSandringham Estate in Norfolk.Headteacher, Helen Hayes,

said, “This week has finished offa marvellous term for theparents, staff and pupils. Beinginvolved in living history with thechildren has made it a day thatwe will not forget.”

IN June, Haughton Valeand ThornleyHouse medical

centres adopted aninnovative newappointment system inresponse to feedbackfrom patients and theHaughton Vale PatientParticipation group. Thanks to the newsystem patients can nowring the surgery anytimebetween 8.30am - 5pm foran appointment and beguaranteed they will be contacted bytheir GP the same day.

No more delays in gettingan appointment

When patients telephone the surgeryreception staff will ask for a few details, which will help doctors prioritise theirreturn calls, to make sure patients in themost need are contacted first.A GP will then contact the patient on

the same day and deal with theirconcerns over the phone, if that’sappropriate, or arrange for them tocome in for an appointment. If patientsprefer to call in for an appointment, because they have hearing difficulties orwant to discuss a sensitive issue face toface, then that’s completely acceptable.

Positive feedbackabout new systemAfter the first month ofusing the new system, ithas had positive feedbackfrom the majority ofpatients. Where thefeedback isn’t positive theteam at the centres arelistening to find out howthey can makeimprovements. As telephone lines areopen throughout the daypatients no longer have

to ring at 8.30am and get caught upin the congestion of people ringing foran appointment, only to disappointedthat they have all gone when theyeventually get through.Naturally there have been a few

teething problems, but these are beingresolved as they come to light, thanks tofeedback from the Haughton ValePatient Participation group and thesurgery teams being open to listening topatients feedback.Join the Patient Participation

groupIf you would like to join the Patient

Participation group and help ensureservices provided by the GPs continueto be responsive to the need of thepatients, then give John Smith a call on07974 768 860.

All themoney raised from the bearswill go to the ‘Help forHeroes’ fund and the eventorganisers would like to saya big ‘Thank You’ toeveryone who bought tickets.Fantastic feedbackThe feedback forms people

EVERYONE at Denton Town FC would like tothank the people who voted for the club toreceive a grant at the ‘You Choose’ event in

June. It was good to see it was so well attendedand that most applicants got a share of thefunding pot. It was particularly good to see thatthe Denton South Community News groupapplication was successful and they received ashare of the money to keep this excellentinformative paper coming to our homes!

New SeasonDenton Town FC starts the new league campaign

on the 11th August in the premier division of theCheshire League. It would be good to get yoursupport and encouragement at our ground onWhittles Playing Fields, on a Saturday for our 3pmkick offs.

Future of Two Trees School siteIn light of recent comments in the local press,

Denton Town FC would like to state our positionregarding Two Trees School and the surroundingplaying fields. The club have had several meetingswith the council and have expressed an interest inkeeping as much of the recreational area as just that. The club are looking at developing a multi-sportsfacility with social amenities attached. However, webelieve the council are looking to put social housingon the site.

While we understand they want to raise money tohelp pay for the fantastic new academy in Denton, the Haughton green and Denton community will needsome balance between the possible new communityon the site and the existing need for socialinteraction. Sport has always brought peopletogether, and for the youngsters involved givenpleasure and an understanding of the need fordiscipline in their lives. We as a community basedclub will always strive to achieve this in everything wedo.

IT’S a bit of a hidden gem that not toomany people know about, but if you’reaged 55 or over it’s definitely worth finding

out about the Grafton Centre in Hyde, next toBangla City.My name is Linda and as well as enjoying

many of the activities on offer at the centre I’malso an active member of the entertainmentscommittee, which gets involved in organisingthe social side of things for members.

Every day of the week there’s something to doat the centre which is why it’s called an ‘ActiveAgeing Centre’!You can enjoy a really good, nourishing two

course meal every day at 12 noon at theLuncheon Club for just £2.55. There’s also a littlebistro where you can purchase tea, coffee andsnacks every day.

ON Thursday 12 July a replica of theOlympic Torch was passed aroundschools in Denton by sports

ambassadors from each school.Children from Manor Green Primary school

brought the torch to St. John Fisher Schoolwhere they were welcomed by cheering crowdsof staff and pupils. Manor Green’s ambassadorspassed on the torch to ambassadors from St.John Fisher who ran the one and one quartermiles to St. Mary's School in Denton where asimilar ceremony took place. It was a wonderful sight to see the children of

Denton gaining an understanding of the Olympicspirit in a very local way. The original idea camefrom the Salford Diocesan ‘Torch Relay of Prayer’where a torch was taken around all schools.

DREADFUL weather over Juneand July made many activitiesimpossible but it didn’t stop

the Haughton Green MethodistChurch annual Strawberry Tea inJune. The Tea was a huge success, even though the evening tea didhave to be cancelled. On 14 July the church held its

everyone else who shopped, prepared, served and cleaned up afterwards thewhole of the event was excellent. After the meal we were entertained

by members from Guide BridgeTheatre, there were musical recitationsand some wonderful toe tappingsinging. What a lovely evening we allhad.
