Visit Biodiversity train exhibition

The Government arranged few days mobile train Biodiversity exhibition at Guntur

Railway Station for students and others to observe and understand the biodiversity of different

kinds of organisms like plants and animals in the nature. On 01-11-2014, our 3rd BZC students of

Telugu & English medium students are taken to mobile Biodiversity Train exhibition.

For the 3rd BZC students in the syllabus they have topics of biodiversity in the

curriculum. For this purpose and to acquire good knowledge the students visited the mobile

biodiversity train exhibition. By this, the students easily understood the knowledge regarding the

different kinds of plants and animals in nature and their potential use to mankind. So, by this,

they learned about to protection and preservation of every organism in nature for the future

generations. Biodiversity is necessary for the evolution and beneficial point of view to get

A Guest Lecture on Role of Biotechnology in Development of

Agriculture an insight into Bt. Cotton

The Department of Botany & Bio-tech organized a guest lecture on 04-12-2014 in room

No:1. The III BSc students of BC students and I & II BSc Botany, Bio-Tech, & Micro-biology

students & Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology and other faculty staff members are

attended the guest lecture. Our college principal Smt.Dr.L.Sasibala acted as a president of this

meeting.

Mr. M.Ashokkumar, Territory manager for Monsanto Group presented the guest lecture

with power-point in which he explained the latest modern devices and techniques used to

increase the productivity in agriculture. Bt.cotton has been genetically modified by the insertion

of one or more genes from a common soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiesis. These genes encode

for the production of insecticidal proteins, and thus genetically transformed are produced one or

more toxins as they grow But in some cases it is found that Bt.cotton is ineffective against many

cotton pests such as plant bugs, stink bugs and apids; depending on circumstances it may be

desirable to use insecticides in prevention.

Guest lecture on Fossilization-Types and Geological Time

scale

Botany dept has conducted a guest lecture on “Fossilization- Types and Geological

Time scale” on 18-12-2014 to the I B.Sc, Botany students by Sri.S.Ravi kumar,

lecturer in Geology, Hindu college Guntur.

Fossils are remains or traces of past organisms that have been preserved by nature.

Fossils are used to study organisms present in the past. Fossils are Impressions or

cast of the organelles living some time back but now extinct. Plant fossils are

normally present in rocks composed of sediments deposited in waters. Infact fossil

are makers of Geologic time.

The process of formation of fossil in the rocks is called fossilization.

Petrifactions, Cast on Incrustations, Compressions, Mummified plants,

Impressions, and Amber are the types of fossils.

The Geological time scale is a system of chronological dating that relates

Geological rock strata to time, and is used by Geologists, Paleontologists, and

other Earth scientists to describe the timing and relationships of events that have

occurred during Earth’s history.
