Department Of Commerce Activity report 1 st YEAR B.Com REPORT ON ORIENTATION PROGRAMME First year degree orientation program was organized by the department of commerce, on 8 th July 2019 at SIAS College. The program has been divided in to two sections. First section was solely for the students and second section was for their parents. In the first section, the program was started with a welcome speech by the first year class advisor Ms. Khadeeja ferin. She gives an idea about the b.com degree course and its related subject to the newly joined students. After that Mr. Abdul Noufal, assistant professor of department of commerce, talked about the various future carrier options after completing b.com degree including higher studies involved in it and he also talked about the various achievement that has been achieved by the department of commerce recently. Then Mrs. Indu A.S. Maheswaran, assistant professor of department of commerce, in her address to the students, she talked about communication and personality, the most important factor for improving inter personnel relationship. She also talked about the role of parents in a student’s life. After a break, the second section was started with the parents. The program was started with the welcome by Mrs. Indu A.S. Maheswaran, assistant professor of department of commerce. After that Ms. Khadeeja Ferin the class advisor address the parents and she talked about the b.com degree courses in detailed and also she mention about the achievements of commerce department. Then Mr. Abdul Noufal, assistant professor of commerce department, discussed the carrier opportunities and higher studies available to students after completing b.com. All these faculties has inspired the all the students and their parents by making them understanding about the relevance of this degree course and they also motivated the students to have a high visionary goals in their future professional life as well as to become a good person. The last section we had a discussion with students and parents to clear all their doubts and we had an interactive section with them. And finally the programme was ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Indu A.S. Maheswaran, assistant professor of commerce department and she wished all the students on this occasion and ended the valuable speech by welcoming all of them to SIAS college.

A TWO DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “RESOLVING AND MANAGING

SYSTEMATIC BANKING CRISIS” on September 3rd

and 4th

.

For past a decade, the banks in India, both public and private sector, are subject to numerous

numbers of crises, which still remains unresolved and complicated. The National Seminar which

was conducted on 3rd

and 4th

of September, 2019, intended to address the issues that whirl

around the industry.In order to provide an academic approach towards this, the Department of

Commerce arranged a two day National Seminar on “Resolving and Managing Systematic

Banking Crisis.

The formal inaugural session was commenced by remembering God Almighty . followed by

Welcome Speech of Mr. Shanawas .A K, Head of the Department, SAFI. Hon former Principal

Prof Dr P V BasheerAhammed delivered the Presidential address. Chief Guest Mr. C H Abdul

Raheem, Chairman, SAFI inaugurated the session with a thought provoking speech. The Key

Note address was delivered by Mr. C.P. Kunhimuhammed, Secretary SIAS followed by a

Special Address by Col. NisarAhamadSeethi, Chief Operating Officer, SIAS. The felicitations

were delivered by Mr. SamsheerBabu, HOD, Department of Management. The formal session

came to an end with Vote of Thanks by Ms. A M Indu A S Maheswaran, Co-ordinator of the

seminar.

A total of 4 papers were presented and the session was chaired by Mr. Baijumon P, Assistant

Professor, Department of Commerce, Government College, Malappuram. The paper presenters

were mainly the faculties from other colleges, one research scholar and rest were the PG students

of Commerce. The topics presented were divergent in different aspects of banking like Islamic

banking, financial inclusion, role of co-operative sector etc.

After the lunch break, the Second Technical Session started with much stacked information

regarding Non-Performing Assets.

The paper presentations were further continued, in which the next 4 papers were presented. The

session was chaired by Mr. RajanMalayil, Retired Professor, Zamorin’sGuruvayoorappan College,

Kozhikode. This session also covered the other aspects of banking sector like online payments,

Government schemes for financial inclusion, Payment Banks etc. The session was worth brain

storming.

The first day of the National Seminar was concluded with an impression of worthwhile contents.

Valedictory Function

The Valedictory function of the two day National Seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. B

Johnson, DCMS, University of Calicut. The Welcome Speech in the function was delivered by Ms.

KhadeejaFerin, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, SIAS. The session was continued

by the valuable words of the former Principal Dr. P V BasheerAhammad and Chief Operating

Officer, Col. NisarAhammadSeethi. The main speaker of the session, the most respected Chief

Guest Dr. B Johnson, provided the audience with an insight of how to look into the future

prospects of the banking industry through his remarkable discourse. The session was concluded by

the Vote of Thanks, delivered by, Abdul Noufal M, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce,

SIAS. Further, the certificates were distributed to the participants followed by the photo session.
