Public Works EngineersCity of Virginia Beach Engineers play an important role in maintaining the sustainability of our city. We have several Engineering opportunities available in the following divisions:

Storm Water Engineering Center Manages projects to help prevent major flooding issues within the city and leads our Sea Level Rise initiatives

• manage storm water flood control projects for neighborhoods

• develop storm water master plans

• analyze effects of Sea Level Rise and recurring flooding on city infrastructure

Storm Water Management Regulatory DivisionMaintains water quality standards for residents and supports the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit

• manage water quality improvement projects

• conduct field investigations

• analyze data through the use of geographic information system tools

• coordinate public outreach and education activities

• provide oversight in pollution prevention and reduction

Transportation Division Delivers roadway projects throughout the city and provides a safer and less congested roadway network for the motoring public

• manage civil engineering related projects that support: transportation, traffic safety, highway expansion, bridges and parks

• in-house design of major transportation projects

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Works

is currently hiring Engineers to fill vacancies across multiple divisions.

Public Works Engineers provide comprehensive engineering

support in all areas of civil engineering for the City of Virginia

Beach. A staff of more than 100 full-time engineers oversee the

delivery of major capital infrastructure projects including design,

construction, and environmental initiatives.

Coastal Division Manages the upkeep and improvement of the city coastline and beaches for residents and tourists

• oversees beach replenishment

• manages neighborhood navigation dredging

Engineering and Construction ManagementOversees construction of major city infrastructure projects including roadways, storm water and city buildings

• develop construction project scopes

• oversee construction and inspections for all new City infrastructure

Minimum qualifications and salary ranges: Positions will be filled as an Engineer I, Engineer II, or Engineer III depending on qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.

• Engineer I: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, $55,494.40 - $85,196.00 DOQ

• Engineer II: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two years of progressive professional experience, $61,256.00 - $94,036.80 DOQ

• Engineer III: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and five years of progressive professional experience, $71,032.00 - $109,054.40 DOQ
