ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Sociology, started with the establishment of the college in 2007, strives toencourage students to a greater awareness and understanding of social issues and to impartknowledge to students about society with sociological perspective. It also aims to encouragethem to stand by social stability through the development of better social relationship withsocial values. The Department endeavours to impart holistic education to students by creatingawareness of social responsibility and community development. The Department has, to itscredit, “G.S. GHURYE SOCIOLOGY FORUM”. Our staffs have presented papers in variousseminars, workshops, conferences and symposia and brought out their research publication.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2015-16Village survey: - village survey has been conducted on a village survey on 16.02.2016 for II,
IV, and VI semester in Lingadahalli Tiptur taluk.
A village survey has been conducted in LingadahalliTipturtaluk. The Department of Sociology
has conducted surveys above the village by VI semester students on 16.02.2016.
Dr.Nagendrappa.E HOD and Prof.Siddagangaiah. SG has participated in the village survey. The
students have collected the personal information of the respondents which helps to analyses their
socio-economic condition. Despite that they have tried to create awareness among the
respondents about cleanliness at the home and village level.
Orientation Programme: - One-day Orientation program has been conducted for Pre-University College Teachers on
“Issues and Challenges of the Sociology in contemporary India”, on 05.02.2016. Department Seminar: - The department of Sociology has been conducted a seminar on 30.03.2016 on the topic
“Research method and Technics in Social science.”

A social survey has organised by the department of Sociology students in order to collect
the information which helps to understand the socio-economic status of the respondents
in the survey area that is Gandhinagar Tiptur taluk. V semester students actively
participated in the field work. They met respondents personally with interview schedule.
They opined that they have get wonderful experience in their student carrier.

seminar has inaugurated by Prof.Chandrakanth, the director of ISEC, Bangalore, He said that the
prime minister of India has banned Rs.500 &1000 notes without information to the public. it has
badly impact on socio-economic life of middle and lower class people. Dr.Narayanachetty, the
director shreeAlampalliVenkataram labour research chair Bangalore has invited as chief guest
and he said that the demonetization has positively impact on control the terrorism, corruption,
block money and fakenotes. Prof. Abdul Ajiz ICSSR National fellow and faculty, National Law
School of India, Bangalore has said organised this kind of seminars are virtually necessary to
assess the government policies in the present scenario. He also said that without taking
precautionary measures banned the present currency it may negatively impact on middle and
lower class people. Prof. R. Shankar. Professor, Bharathidas University, Tiruchanapalli,
Tamilnadu has delivered the key-note address. Dr.C.M. Lakshman. Associate Professor ISEC
Bangalore has invited special guest. Dr.H.D. Prashanth has delivered valedictory address.

valedictory function. Prof. H.B. Kumaraswamy has presided over the function.

On 5th June 2018, implanting plantsin the college campus.The faculty and Students of
Sociology department have been participated on the occasion.
Corruption free India programme: Department of Sociology and State bank of India havejointly organised the corruption free India essay writing competition programme on 25.10.2017. The SBI has sponsored the prizes.
Department Seminar:- The Department of Sociology has organized a seminar on the topic “IndustrialSociology” in the college on 20.01.2018. The formal function was started at 10.30 am inthe APJ Abdul Kalam auditorium in the presence of principal. Prof. Kumarswamy HBhas presided over the programme. Dr. Manjula. Assistant professor, Department ofStudies and Research in Sociology, Rani Chennamma University, Belagavi has beeninvited as resource person and she has given a Lecture on Industrial Relations. She hasexplained the relations in the industrial organization with examples. Prof.Siddagangaiah.SG has been invited as resource person and he has given lecture onTylor’s scientific management and explained illumination experiment and RATRexperiment. Competition of Devotional Songs The Department of Sociology has organized a singing competition of devotional songs with
a collaboration of The Jnana Spandana Foundation

devotional song in this Function.
What Next’ program : On 7th February 2019 in collaboration with Kayaka Foundation the department organized
‘What Next’ program. The Director of the foundation has explained the opportunities even after the graduation.

Special Lecture on Industrial Sociology for VI semester students 1st April 2019 Special Lecture was presented by Prof.Krishnamurthy on The importance of
Industrial Sociology and Social relations in Industry. Special Lecture on Industrial Sociology for VI semester students

SiddagangaiahS G also delivered his Lecture on the topic of The Rise of Industrial Sociology,

Relay Assembly Test room.

Academic year 2019-20
A Visit to Dim & Duff School
The Department of Sociology has been conducted an extension activity on 19/09/2019 by
visiting Sri. Siddarameswara dim and duff children residential school located at Haluguna of
Chikkanayakanahallitaluk. Almost 42 students along with the faculty named Dr.Nagendrappa
.E, prof.Siddagangaiah.S.G and Dr.Dayanad. The students have been participated actively in
the cleaning of school compound and planting around the compound. A behalf of Department
of Sociology has donated ten Neel kamal chairs to the institution.
A simple program has been arranged along with the school children. Mr.
Chandrashekaraiah, the chairperson of this institution, has presided over the function and he
explained the learning process of children in the school. Prof.Siddagangaiah.S.G has been
explained the causes for dim and duff like heredity, chemical reaction, natural disasters and
marriage with relatives. Dr.Nagendrappa. E has been explained about the significance of the
body parts. We should protect them from coming over the problem. Sri. Siddesh whom
proprietor of this institution told that we are grateful to the sociology department which
donated ten chairs for our institution. He proved to say that cleaning and planting around the
compound by the sociology department students. Dr.Dayanand has been assured to provide
the necessary equipment to the institution in future. Mallesh has been welcome the
dignitaries, Bindu has thanked all the participants in the program.

of Labour Laws in Labour welfare” dated 10.03.2020 in the seminar hall. Prof. K.M.Rajanna,
the principal has presided over the programme. Prof. Mohammed Dasthgeer has inaugurated.
DrAshwakhAhmmedhas given a special lecture on the topic.Prof. K.M.Rajanna said that all
students must be known the laws which related to labour as well as civilians to get the benefit
of it.in the recent days' several labour laws taking place for the welfare of workers. Hence
now the exploitation of the workers has been reducing due to awareness of them. He has
proud of this type of seminars which organized in the department helps to students to
understand in deferent method. Prof. mohammedDastgeer has talked about the significance of
seminar organized that shows scientific methodology in teaching and learning. Dr. Ashwak
Ahmed has given a lecture on the role of labour laws in the welfare of workers, he explained
that the laws have been significantly important to avoid the exploitation, injustice, violence
etc. After independence of India several legislation have introduced, but majorly Industrial
dispute Act 1947 and Employees State Insurance Act 1948 which of the most important Acts
to provide welfare benefits from the government since time to time. Dr. Nagendrappa E Head
of the Department has said that every student must be participated like this seminars and to
develop the leadership quality through organing. Prof. Nagabhushan. SR, IQAC coordinator
and Dr. Sarawasthi NAAC coordinator have presented in the programme.
