Department of Metallurgical Engineering University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Opportunities for PhD Fellowships & Postdoctoral Positions Research on Materials Design and Processing of Multiclass Structural Materials The Metallurgical Engineering department at the University of Utah has new/open positions for two PhD graduate research fellowships and one postdoctoral fellowship to perform research on Material Design and Synthesis of Multiclass TiBX Systems leading to new metal matrix composites, cermets and ceramics. The positions are available in the context of the new NSFDesign of Engineering Materials for the Future project. Positions start in the department in Fall 2014 or Spring 2015. Students will also have the opportunity to collaborate with students of computational modeling studies of materials, which will be performed at MSE department (Prof. D. Trinkle) at University of Illinois UrbanaChampagne. Students and the postdoc may also have the opportunity to collaborate with Coors Tek, C5 Medical Werks and Ortho Development Corporation. Because of the nature of the project, US Citizenship or permanent residency is preferred, but all highly qualified candidates are welcomed. Interested candidates contact Prof. K. S. Ravi Chandran, Department of Metallurgical Engineering, University of Utah, preferably by email: [email protected]. Ternary TiBX systems TiBX Cermet Electron density in BB bonds by DFT
