Where Are We Now?

EFA Goal and Objectives (2015) • GOAL: Basic Competencies for Everyone to
Achieve Literacy for All
Development goals agreed upon by 192 States and 23 organization to be achieved in 2015
Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Achieve universal primary education Promote gender equality and empower women Reduce child mortality Improve maternal health Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Ensure environmental sustainability Develop a global partnership for development
The education sector shall seek to achieve improvement in education performance indicators in both access and quality.
▪ For basic education, the target are consistent with the country’s EFA and MDG goals
▪ By 2016, the country should have achieved a universal and atleast a 92 percent participation or net enrolment rate among elementary and secondary-age children, respectively. A gender partly index (GPI) of 1 shall be targeted in basic education indicators.
Component I: Universal Coverage of Out-of-School Youth and Adults in the Provision of Basic Learning Needs.
Component 2: Universal school participation and total elimination of drop-out and repetition in Grades 1 to 3.
Component 3: Universal completion of full cycle of basic education schooling with satisfactory achievement by all.
Component 4: Total community commitment to attainment of basic education competencies for all.
1. Make every schools continuously improve its performance;
2. Expand early childhood care and development coverage to yield more EFA benefits;
3. Transform existing non-formal and informal learning options into a truly viable alternative learning system yielding more EFA benefits;
4. Get all teachers to continuously improve their teaching practices;
5. Increase the cycle of schooling to reach 12 years of formal basic education;
6. Continue enrichment of curriculum development in the context of pillars of new functional literacy;
7. Provide adequate and stable public funding for country-wide attainment of EFA goals;
8. Create network of community-based groups for local attainment of EFA goals; and
9. Monitor progress in effort towards attainment of EFA goals.
