DEFINITION OF DEPRESSION

-The World Health Organization (WHO) defines depression as "a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, decreased energy, feelings of guilt or low self-worth,

disturbed sleep or appetite, and poor concentration".

- Depression is estimated to affect 350 million people .

Effects and Symptoms

Emotional:Symptoms: Negative feelingsEffects: lose of relationships

Cognitive:Symptoms: decision making, concentrating and memorizing difficulties. Working problemsEffects: low self- esteem

Major depression : severe prevents the person from living his life normally.

Dysthymia: prevents the patient from living his life normally Not severe symptoms distinguishes this type

Minor depression: symptoms two weeks or longer The person functions well Major depression.
