    What other treatments areavailable for depressionand anxiety?

    Its not uncommon or people with depression

    or anxiety to try to manage the illness

    themselves. Its important to know that while

    there are other non-medical treatments

    available these may be either helpul or harmul.

    Treatments that are helpul include increasing

    physical exercise or getting enough sleep.

    Harmul strategies include drinking morealcohol and smoking marijuana.

    Some non-medical treatments have undergone

    scientifc testing and may be tried i the

    depression or anxiety is not severe or lie-

    threatening. The tables below show the range

    o other treatments available and the evidence

    or their use in treating depression (Table )

    and anxiety (Table 2). Treatments in the Poor

    Evidence box need more research to determinetheir helpulness.
