Discover Derby Theatre: A Learning TheatreOur doors are open – come and find out more! Here at Derby Theatre, we provide unique access to our building, staff and creative teams to support learning right across the curriculum. Our exciting programme of workshops, shows and bespoke projects will inspire young people to engage with a whole range of subjects, from English to Science. We offer an exciting hands-on approach to understanding the wide range of careers in theatre, led by all of our staff who are trained to share their skills with others.

We can also give you special access to practitioners from the whole theatre-making process, from designers to directors and writers to actors, who will help students explore and understand texts, theatrical concepts and processes.

Looking ahead to autumn 2019 and spring 2020, we are delighted to offer school workshops directly related to our productions of Little Red Riding Hood for Early Years, One Man, Two Guvnors, Macbeth and Crongton Knights for Key Stage 3 and above and A Christmas Carol for both Primary and Secondary Schools.

We offer Arts Award and can support you on your Arts Mark journey. We also work in partnership with QUAD, Déda, Baby People, Derby Museums, Artcore, Sinfonia ViVA, the Music Partnership and EMCCAN to provide you with a one-stop shop for all your creative and cultural learning requirements. We would like to thank the following organisations for their generous support:

The Learning Continues...The Learning Theatre provides a unique opportunity for students to learn their craft by studying at the University of Derby and working alongside both academics and theatre professionals in the heart of a producing theatre. Students can study Theatre Arts, Technical Theatre and Costume and Set Design. We also have an MA in Applied Theatre and Education. The theatre provides an extraordinary platform for real life learning to take place, not only through the exciting main stage and studio programmes but also through the work that the theatre does with young people, young people in care, emerging artists and the community. There is no other model like this in the country and we are leading the world in this way of working. For more information visit www.derby.ac.uk/theatre See inside for details on pathways to careers and taster workshops at your school.
