Mrs Jane Whitlock died Saturday morning at the home of her step-son, Mr. J. C. Whitlock.She had entered upon her 91st year, and during her long life she was a devoted fonower of theMaster.
She faced the end bravely, being perfectly resigned to His win.Mrs. Whitlock was the wife of the late William Whitlock.
Rev. P. B. Lauham conducted the funeral, the interment being held at the Whitlock CemeterySunday Afternoon.She was a member ofMt. Zion Church.

Mr. William Whitlock Dear Father I sat myself this Sabbath morning to write you a few linesto inform you I am well hoping this will find you all well. My paper is in short supply so I willhave to make my letter a short one. I have no to write you that will interest you. I received aletter from sister dated 22 May and that is the latest news I have from home. I am gettinganxious to hear trom you all again, but perhaps I may get a letter today. Everything is quietalong our lines today and has been for several days. Our pickets and the Yankee pickets havegotten friendly again. We all trade with them every day, tobacco for coffee and sugar, and Ihave had as much sugar and coffee as I could drink for a week, and can get it any time we wantit. I wish you all could get some of it. Though we are are all so mendly we are looking everyday to be attacked. I think the Yankees are receiving reinforcements every day. Our main lineand the Yankee line is not more than a thousand yards apart. We can hear their drums andbands all times of the day, they have splendid music. Pa I think the next big fight we have willbe fought near Petersburg, Virginia. We are faring pretty well and duty is not so hard as it hasbeen. We have to picket every third night, we are on twenty four hours before we are releived.Pa I drew a splendid pair of shoes yesterday and expect that I will draw clothing in a few days.Pa I saw an Edgefield paper a few days ago which gave an account of the casualties in the 7thregiment. I saw in where poor Joseph Whitkock was killed, I saw where Lons?? was severlywounded in the shoulder. Elbert Wells informs me that Martin Whitlock is at home. Our men
and the Yankees had a fight on our right a few days ago sending them back, I have not learnedwhat the casualties were. I would write to sister Hannah but the most of my envelopes aredirected to you. Milledge Eugene Strom, 58, died Wednesday in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, Georgia,following a long illness.Mr. Strom was bom in Edgefield County, a son of the late Milledge E. During the past thirty years William Albert Whitlock, Sr. has carried on the practise ofmedecine at Wagner and Selby. Well quailifid for the profession of his choice by tempermentand training, he has played an important part in the life of this section for many years.Dr. Whitlock was born at Edgefield, South Carolina, September 13, 1866, the son of JohnCurtis and Martha (Donald) Whitlock. The father, a farmer, enlisted in the cause of the south
at the outbreak of the war between the states and served for four years in the Confederatearmies being a member of the seventh South Carolina Regiment-Longstreet's Brigade. At hebattle of Sharpsburg, South Carolina, he was twice wounded and was subsquently captured and

turned over as a prisoner to a private home in Maryland.William Albert Whitlock, of this record, received his educational training in the commonschools of Edgefield, meanwhile assisting in the duties on his fathers farm. In addition tocarrying on his medical practice, he has been a farmer all of his life and still operates a farm atthe present time. Meanwhile, as a youth he had determined on a medical career and "subqsquently enrolled in the medical department of the University of Georgia, from which hewas graduated in 1901, with the Doctor of Me decine Degree. He was graduated with highhonors and this was particularly notable in view of the fact that he never received a high schooleducation. After taking his degree, Dr. Whitlock opened an office at Elco, South Carolina,where he carried on the practice of his profession for six months. At the end of this timehowever, he moved to Wagner, where his activities have been centered since that time. Dr.Whitlock quickly won the confidence of the community and with the passing years he built up aprosperous practice, as the demands on his services constantly increased. He has kept abreastof all of the new developments in the field opf medical science and is one of the most respectedand best loved practioners in this part of the state.In spite of the ardous duties of his practice, Dr. Whitlock has found time for other publicservices. For eight years he was County Commissioner of Aiken County and his administrationmarked the first of the "good roads" commissions whose work has been of such importance tothe county. With sure vision and commendable energy, Dr. Whitlock took a leading part inthese labors, exemplifying the progressive spirit which has always distinguished him in hissupport of every worthy movement, whether civic or benovolent. Fraternally, Dr, Whitlock isaffiliated whith the Knights ofPythias, while with his family he worships in the Baptist faith.He is a Deacon of the local church of this denomination, having been elected to that office forlife on February 14, 193 1.On December 25, 1892, at Graniteville, South Carolina Dr. William Albert Whitlock, Sr.married Ella Burton, daughter of Peyton and Annie (Bates) Burton, ofthat town. Dr. and Mrs.Whitlock are the parents of the following children:1. Ruth, a graduate of Winthrop College, now Mrs Arthur P. Snyder of Greenville, SouthCarolina.
