Asphalt Odor Suppressant Additive

REDUCES HYDROGEN SULFIDE AND OTHER VOC EMISSIONS BY UP TO 90%

deScent is an asphalt odor suppressant that neutralizes odorous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including dangerous hydrogen sulfide (H²S) gas emissions. It improves worker safety and air quality while eliminating odor complaints. deScent is a cost-effective odor suppressant, and it is easy to use and apply during asphalt storage or transfer. deScent alleviates pressure on asphalt manufacturing facilities by curtailing odor concerns of residents in nearby communities. For roofing contractors, it also eliminates the inconvenience of incurring additional costs to perform work during irregular hours or only seasonally due to public odor concerns.

TECHNICAL DATA SHEET

APPLICATIONS FEATURESELIMINATES ASPHALT ODOR

Scientifically proven to suppress up to 90% of odor causing VOCs

Scientifically proven to reduce dangerous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas emissions by up to 85%

Neutralizes odors rather than masking with another fragrance

DOES NOT IMPACT PERFORMANCE OF ASPHALTS

No effect on asphalt polymerization, penetration, softening point or dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) values

COMPATIBLE WITH POLYPHOSPHORIC ACID (PPA)

Unlike zinc-based H2S scavengers, will not adversely react with PPA-modified asphalt

STABLE IN ASPHALT

Remains effective in asphalt for weeks to months, depending on storage conditions

EASY TO USE

No heat required

USE DESCENT WHEN YOU NEED:

• To reduce H2S risks and create a safer working environment

• To eliminate asphalt odor and public complaints

• A PPA-friendly alternative to zinc-based scavengers

ASPHALT

Compatible with most roofing and paving grade asphalts including those modified with styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) polymers, polyphosphoric acid (PPA), ground tire rubber (GTR) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS)

PAVING GRADE ASPHALT:

• 0.01 – 0.02% by weight of asphalt

ROOFING GRADE ASPHALT:

• 0.01 – 0.04% by weight of asphalt

Usage rate should be determined by user. Optimal usage rate is when neither asphalt nor deScent odor is detected.

OPTIONS FOR ADDING DESCENT TO ASPHALT:

1. Add to asphalt storage tank and agitate mechanically or through pump circulation

2. Add by in-line injecting into the asphalt transfer lines

3. Manually add to transport tanker or rail car prior to being loaded with asphalt
