The class that we intently to conduct is a second level listening and reading
group in the classroom. We will emphasize on communication through listening and
reading. As for the introduction, we will show the level two students in the classroom
a video which consist the largest mammals on earth, an Elephant. We will ask them
to describe the criteria of the elephant based on the video showed and ask what is
this? As they have watched it, they will reply it is an elephant, it is the largest
animal live on land or they live in a herd, etc. This is called as a brainstorming
session as they are expressing their own thoughts and ideas based on what they
observed and look on the video. This warm-up activity is use in order to evaluate and
to see if the students know the new vocabulary for the lesson. It is also used so that
the students will have insights on what topic that they are about to learn in the on-
going lesson. It will be conduct in about 5 minutes.
After they have watched the video, we are about to instruct them to form and
sit in group of 5 which consist of 5 students in a group. Later on, we will distribute a
short authentic reading text about an elephant among the students, respectively, and
ask them to read silently, as we would like to introduce a new reading technique that
they might did not aware of it, which is silent reading. As they are instructed by us to
read the text, they are also will use a technique that is called as skimming in reading,a technique that intently use to find the general ideas of the text that they read. After
a few minutes, we would ask an individual of each group to stand up, represent
themselves and retell to their classmates about the information that they have read
based on the given text, orally. Before that, the one who represent each of his/ her
group will be given the opportunity to discuss with their peers which in the same
group on what the information that they are about to share. Perhaps they would like
to talk about the physical characteristics of an elephant, or they might prefer to talk
about the habitat of this animal, and for sure it is based on the information in the text.
Then, we would distribute task sheets for them to answer it. The ample time
will be given for the students to answer the questions, which is about 20 minutes. For
this task, they need to answer the question given thoroughly, as they also will use
other reading techniques by which it is known as scanning. Before they answering
the task sheets given, well explain several rules, for instance, they are not allowed
to talk and discuss with their peers in any way in order to get the answer. Other than

that, they might need to further up the distance with their peers. In giving
instructions, we also need to choose words carefully so that students will able
understand the instruction clearly. After that, we would discuss the correct answer
with the students so that they able to evaluate their own weaknesses and strengths.
In this session, students are allowed to ask the teacher about the rational of the
chosen answer and get feedback from it.
