DESIGN, ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT OF PROTOTYPEMODEL OF COMPOSITE INTENSIVE SIDE DOOR PADDINGIN CARS

    ABSTARCT

The project is carried out in order to allow more innovation in the design, to provideimproved impact stifness on the side door panels o the commercial and domesticvehicles. The material selection is done among the alloys and composites thatprovides structural stifness. Structural applications o polymer composite materialsare expected to provide signi cant mass reductions over the steel components thatthey replace. Closures are o ten targeted or mass reduction because they haveminimal in uence on the structural integrity o the vehicle as a whole. !rototypeclosures can o ten be substituted onto existing vehicles with little or no changes to therest o the vehicle. "n this wor#, attention is ocused strictly on the ront side door. $ueto vehicle symmetry, any mass reduction achieved in a side door is doubled on thevehicle. %n additional advantage o developing a low mass side door is that it can beeasily commoni&ed or high volume. 'sing stifness criteria, nite element analysis isused to develop a minimum mass design using composite sandwich structures.!re orms are handcra ted rom molded oam cores wrapped with a combination o woven and stitch(bonded unidirectional glass ber and polyester resins. The designand analysis is carried out in C%T"% v) and %*S+S so twares to provide dimensionaland experimental data to simulate load conditions.
