You can present your work in loads of different ways... PowerPoint, models, writing, practical, photos/videos for example – so challenge your self and make it exciting. If you are struggling with your work or just need a bit of help, just ask your technology teacher.

Compulsory Tasks (you must complete all of these tasks)

Research1. Choose a country and find out about their food traditions. You could look at traditional ingredients and famous dishes as well as recipes. Try to explain why these ingredients and dishes are typical for your chosen country

Evaluation2. Describe in detail several dishes from your chosen country and say what you like / do not like about he dishes and why.Use sensory analysis (taste, texture, appearance etc.) and nutrition when evaluating the dishes

Design Ideas3. Produce your own design / range of designs based on the style of food from your country.Annotate and evaluate your ideasTry to show that you can develop / modify a recipe

Elective Tasks (you must complete a minimum of 1 task)

Moodboard4. Make a collage of images related to the country. Include pictures, keywords, and any facts you think are important. Minimum size of the poster is A3.

Prepare 5. Make one of the dishes you have designed and take a photograph of it.

Powerpoint 6. Produce a PowerPoint presentation promoting the food of your chosen country

Level Ladder

Level 4

Use research (products & designers) to help generate ideas.

Show a number of ideas.

Think about constraints. (Things you will not be able to do due to time/ the material etc)

Use labelled sketches and models to show your ideas.

Use tools/equipment with some accuracy. Pay attention to finish.

Evaluate your designs as they develop. (You may change things as you go along – give a reason)

Level 5

Use a few different sources of information as well as prior knowledge to help generate ideas.

Communicate a variety of ideas.

Show you are aware of constraints and how to tackle them.

Use discussion, labelled sketches and models to communicate their designs, showing understanding of aesthetic and socio economic groups.

Use a range of tools, with some precision.

Check your work as it develops. Test and evaluate your product, showing that you understand the situations in which the products will functionLevel 6

Use various sources of information recognising the significance of others’ design work and showing that they understand the form and function of familiar products.

Develop detailed criteria for their products and use these to explore proposals.

Respond creatively to briefs, exploring and testing your ideas.

Apply your knowledge and understanding by responding to several aspects of the original problem.Use discussion, labelled sketches and models to communicate their designs, showing understanding of aesthetic and socio economic groups.

Use a range of tools, materials, and processes, showing you understand their characteristics.

Evaluate your product in use, and identify ways of improving it. As well as evaluating how effectively you have used information sources.

Level 7

Use a wide range of relevant information when developing and modelling ideas.

Investigate form, function and production processes.

Show an understanding of others’ designs as you respond creatively to briefs, whilst exploring and testing your design thinking.

Recognise the different needs of a range of users, and search for trends and patterns in existing solutions as you develop fully realistic products.

Use discussion, labelled sketches and models to communicate your designs, showing understanding of aesthetic and socio economic groups.Work with a range of tools, materials, and processes, showing you have full understanding of their characteristics and uses.

Adapt your method of manufacture in response to changing circumstances solving technical problems and providing a sound explanation for any change from the design proposal.

Select appropriate techniques to evaluate how your product would perform when used and demonstrate in the light of these findings how you would modify it to improve performance.

Level 8

Use a wide range of relevant information when developing and modelling ideas.

Investigate form, function and production processes as well as conflicting demands on a product.

Show an understanding of others’ designs as you respond creatively to briefs, suggesting ways forward and explaining how your ideas address any conflicting demands.

Apply knowledge and understanding, recognising the different needs of a range of users, and search for trends and patterns in existing solutions as you develop fully realistic products.Use discussion, labelled sketches and models to communicate your designs, showing understanding of aesthetic and socio economic groups as well as environmental, ethical, and social & cultural influences.Organise your work so that you can carry out processes accurately and consistently, and use tools, equipment, materials and components with precision. Make decisions on materials, equipment and techniques based on your understanding of physical properties and working characteristics.

Use accurate testing to inform your judgement when solving technical problems, providing a sound explanation for any change from the design proposal.

Identify a broad range of criteria for evaluating your products, clearly relating your findings to environmental, ethical, and social & cultural dimensions.
