Eloise ClearyBachelor of Design in Product Design

“UTS creates opportunities for students to create high-calibre works though international studios, industry involvement and projects, high-end workshop facilities and guidance from experienced academics.

Product design has given me a holistic approach to solving design problems. I felt very welcomed in the UTS community and I was particularly intrigued by the fabrication workshop, which caters for soft modelling, wood working, metal manipulation and more.”

Jason ClarkBachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles

“The UTS fashion and textiles degree has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in my life thus far. The UTS fashion faculty from tutors to senior lecturers are all passionate about fashion design and champion each student to find their own voice and encourage creative expression through whatever challenge arises. When complex design challenges arise lecturers and tutors go above and beyond to collect learning materials and expertise for students who wish to go the extra mile and succeed.

UTS Fashion has been integral to my growth as a designer through engaging theoretical lectures which introduce students to design practices along with high quality technical workshops in professional studio settings. The strength of the degree lies in UTS being a research university. This introduction to fashion research and theory within the first year gave me the toolkit to interrogate my own design practices, question historical figures of fashion and really step into my own as a designer which has allowed me, with the help of the UTS fashion network to be published in Vogue Australia and online at Fashion Journal.”

The future is our project

At the UTS School of Architecture, we see architecture, landscape architecture and interior architecture as powerful tools to transform our cities and societies, in order to address complex challenges the future presents us – climate change, social justice, technological advancement, and beyond.

We’re designers, strategic thinkers, globally focused and rigorous in our conceptual approach – and we’re committed to improving the physical and social environments in which we live.

SHAPE THE CONVERSATIONAs a school, we’re vibrant, dynamic and creative, always innovative in our perspectives on both the future and the past. Integrated into the multidisciplinary culture of DAB, our ideas are shaped by the conversations we share with our neighbouring design disciplines. Above all, we’re committed to advancing the built environment through teaching and research by looking beyond accepted structures, processes and boundaries.

LEARN FROM THE BESTWhen you study with us, you’ll be challenged to extract knowledge and methods from related disciplines across and between related disciplines, from engineering to visual arts and filmmaking. You’ll study alongside internationally acclaimed academic and professional leaders, working in studios, workshops, computer labs and digital maker spaces that house the latest tools and technologies of the trade.

GLOBAL EXPOSURE = GLOBAL VISIONArchitecture, interior architecture and landscape architecture are global professions, and our degrees have a distinctly global focus. Our studio subjects will take you to some of the world’s diverse cities and landscapes, giving you a thorough understanding of international best practice — so when you hit the ground after graduation, you’ll be ready to run.

Architecture

Olivia MonteleoneBachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours)

“Over my 4 years of study, the course has allowed me to challenge my creative ideas and processes across an array of project types from small sale civic centres, to botanical planting schemes and large-scale ecological frameworks.

What I enjoyed most about the course, was the elective opportunities, which took me to study in Europe and Regional Australia, talking with renowned landscape professionals and connecting with their designed sites in person.

Ultimately, the collaborative and cultural experiences formed over my time with UTS Landscape Architecture has provided the exposure needed to share my ideas within the discipline and enabled me to land a job in the field.”

Sara Valassina. ‘Medea’, 2020.

“UTS’ faculty of Interior Architecture are like no other; they have helped shape the designer I am. I now view and create with a completely new lens and consider things I have never taken notice of before. The skillsets I have gained are invaluable and transferable to all aspects of my life.

Winning second place in the Garth Barnett Prize for Excellence in Design has helped pave the way for my future in Interior Architecture. The prize has assisted me in gaining acceptance into an internship in London where I will now be moving to for 3 months. Studying Interior Architecture at UTS has given me a world of unimaginable opportunities and lifelong relationships.”

“UTS has many industry connections with construction companies, and it was through these connections that I was able to secure a position at Mirvac where I am currently a cadet.

It’s a very practical course, which is something that I absolutely love. It’s very hands on. We get to go out onto site for some of our assignments. So far, I’ve travelled to Cambodia to build a house, to Nepal to build a new farming product, and to China.”

In fact, it responds directly to industry demand for graduates who can demonstrate inter- and transdisciplinary approaches in their professional practice. There’s an emphasis on entrepreneurial thinking, too: by the time you graduate, you’ll be ready to be an entrepreneur, serve entrepreneurial clients, or integrate entrepreneurial processes into your day-to-day work.

Add the diploma to your UTS bachelor’s degree, and what’s more, all your diploma subjects will be offered as winter and summer school intensives – so even though you’re adding an extra qualification, you’ll still graduate on time.

ScholarshipsWhether you’re a high achiever, need a financial boost, or want to get your hands on some amazing professional opportunities, we offer millions of dollars in coursework scholarships that have the potential to enhance your UTS experience. Fees and financial assistance As a domestic student, you’ll study in a Commonwealth Supported Place – the Australian Government will fund some of the cost of your study, while you’ll pay a student contribution and other fees direct to UTS. The good news? The HECS-HELP loan scheme lets you defer the cost of your student contribution until you reach a set income threshold. What’s more, the UTS Financial Assistance Service can help you get on top of your personal finances, giving you more time to focus on study.
