Name…………………………What images are likely to appear on the front cover? (Would the sugar babes use a picture of an eagle eating worms out of a rotting skull?) Should you expect to see darker colours, bright colours, pastels or black and whites?

Big bright colours that stand out that contrast on a black and white background, this also makes it look ‘reto’ as this music genre starting in the 80’s.

Imagery and colour schemes:

Ripped up shapes

Nearly all of these CD’s use pink, blue and purple colours

Type Face/ Font styles:

Create a Photoshop document of typefaces that would be appropriate.

What type faces have you found that could be appropriate? Which ones would be way off the mark?

Ideas for text and album name.

These are two of the images from my CD mood board and they both have animal as a title.

They also look hand written and have a graffiti feel to them.

Needs to be ‘youthful’ , appeal to teenagers, graffiti ?

This text looks creative and personal, looks handwritten and like graffiti which would all combined appeal to ‘youngsters’.

This text has a scratchy handwritten feel which represents the ‘mashed up’ feel of the music and its beats.

Don’ts : delicate, flamboyant, gothic.

This text is too ordered, it is not sporadic enough. It has an olden feel so would not appeal to teenagers.

This text has a scary feel and would not reflect the style of music. It would be more appropriate for metal music.

How I got to the CD cover idea by combining the above factors

I have used the colour scheme of black and white with blues and purples as I found that was a recurring theme in the CD cover mood board.

In the mood board a lot of items were leopard print and bright make-up was used so I combined them both. Also I played on this by making the close-up photo of the person into an animal. It gives it a more ‘youthful’ feel (as it is drawn on) than just photo-shopping a face and an animal.

I kept the eye in colour like in a few of the other CD covers. I used the same colour themes to create the big bright makeup and used eyeliner to draw on leopard print to combine the other features found in the mood board, leopard print.

I took inspiration from the cd mood board and the colour scheme to create the name of the album. It links in with previous albums, the idea of animal print, and to link it in with the photo and leopard print, I created the text by cutting it out of a large image of the eye make-up.

Again I kept with the colour scheme using a black and white photo and keeping the eye make-up in colour. This helped make the image match with the front cover. Again the photo is comical/’youthful’ which combined with the graffiti writing makes it appeal to the audience.

I used ‘ripped up paper’ to use as the background for the song text writing.

It uses the colour theme and is similar to the ripped up shapes used in other cds that I have looked at.
