Dear Readers,I’ve decided to postpone the release of April’s magazine to give space to the numerous updates about the week of Design in Pordenone together with ISIA University; the Design Week Milan, Fuorisalone; the DESIGN ZONE event in the magnifi-cent location of Portopiccolo of Sistiana and the Clarkenwell Design week in London.

I love the design and I have been waiting for this number for a long time, a concentration of DESIGN and events. Our team has dedicated a lot of time to organize the 2016 Design program and to the present different products for each event. The final result has been marvelous and I want to thank all to have contributed to such result. This number is dedicated to the design and I want to remember Zaha Hadid, a great architect and designer who passed away in April, with whom I had the privilege to work with. She was a genius who transformed the art in architecture and the architecture in art.Her design has enchanted the world.

A special memory to her.

In our permanent showroom in Via Solferino 24,Milan at MetroQuality (www.metroquality.it) we have introduced the "LEATHER" collection, the "POUF C" model that is made of ultra-high perfor-mance concrete ( UHPC). The success was huge; people were curious and attracted by the incredible detail of the skin effect and stitching, faithfully repro-duced by our sophisticated and unique mixture of UHPC.

Together with "POUF C" we exposed the planters mod. "CONE" and the "CLUB" seating systems. In the coming months at the showroom we are going to organize a regularly wor-kshops and themed events.

suggestive settings by contextualizing the design in a luxurious and innovative environment that is unique in its development on

the sea. The official presentation of "URBAN SHELTER" desi-gned by Martin Solem. www.designzone2016.it

Part o f i t is cer ta in ly so, but what cont r ibutes to change today is a rea l arch ipe lago of change on a l l f ronts, to t ransform our soc iety f rom compl icated to complex. I t must be sa id that more than many other d isc ip l ines and profess ions Design fo l lows the course of the l i fe of people to the da i ly sca le, and perhaps because of i t manages to in tercept the rea l needs long before other d isc ip l ines. The problem is that for impor tant reasons that now we cannot ta lk now, not a lways a l l needs go in the same d i rect ion as in modern i ty but undergo mutat ions to towards and d i rect ion by making everyth ing pret ty hard, somet imes turn ing even the parad igm around need. Therefore, the evo lut ion there has been but i t was not a sty l is t ic or formal evo lut ion, we can say that the p lanet is s imply changed. That des ign which remains to the aesthet ica l evo lu-t ion of the product and th inks about i tse l f as invar iant over the h is tory is go ing to d isappear. On the cont rary, the one that fo l lows the conceptua l evo lut ion of la rge systems of l i v ing wi l l f lour ish and ga in consensus and achievements. In th is change the theme of env i ronmenta l susta inabi l i ty has leg i t imate ly ga ined more space in des ign ing a spendable and d ign i f ied prof i -le of a good des igner that nowadays, in compar ison wi th the past , cannot longer to des ign by ignor ing the famous four dr ivers of susta inabi l i ty.

F ina l ly c losed the season of i ron ic des ign or ted ious ly provocat ive (a f ter a century of Dadaism and Surrea l ism and a ha l f century of pop ar t , we laugh) or s t i r constant ly in the sty l is t ic featu-res of the made in I ta ly as i f the made in I ta ly were a sty le. The I ta l ian des ign has nowadays a great oppor tun i ty to leave f rom a standst i l l where in my opin ion i t is and that br ings br ight and in te l l igent personal i ty to dea l substant ia l l y wi th accessor ies because the company system does not grasp the d i f ference due to the quantum leap brought by postmodern i ty.

For many years, I am work ing on the ph i losophy of a "Generat ive Des ign" that comes f rom a deep re interpretat ion of megapro ject sphere and bas ic des ign sphere that I have been teaching for about th i r ty years. We r isk to be the bu lwark of the o ld one i f we do not hur r y up and the f i rs t s t ra tegy is the ab i l i ty to read more profoundly the processes in progress. We a lso have to hur r y because cons ider ing the d ig i ta l 's speed; you may lose a lo t o f t ime ta lk ing about the d iscovery of Amer ica whi le around the corner you are decid ing whether to go to Mars or Jupi ter.

In recent years, there has been an evolution of the design.Could it be that is closely related to the technological progress and the growth of "green" factor?

The usua l ones p lus a fundamenta l that today is fundamenta l : to know teamwork, to bu i ld a wel l -made mind as Edgar Mor in says, to leave the “oo” opposi te parad igm to embrace a "b io" parad igm of inc lus ive type, such as "ee", to know how to l is ten wel l to what the society demands. Socia l media are a fundamenta l rea l i ty that character izes the era we l ive but there is more over the garden. I t is impor tant to g ive space to our own inst inct , to understand each other and exper iment our se l f .

The re la t ionsh ip between form and funct ion is par t o f the invar iants of the des ign cu l ture, and so i t is out of the d iscuss ion. A moment a lways ar r ives where you have to compare wi th th is problem but the rea l core of the d iscuss ion of the pro ject is e lsewhere and not s tar t ing today. We l ive an h is tor ica l and socia l era based on the in format ion and re la t ionsh ips, we d isp laced the pr imacy of mater ia l i ty and today the des ign dea ls a lways wi th complex problems to reach the pa lnn ing of more and more in te l l igent ar t i facts. I t is obv ious that the wor ld wi l l a lways have need of ar t i facts and products and of manufactur ing, the problem is “how” wi l l be made, and "who" wi l l th ink about them.

I am very p leased to be able to answer you by say ing that the European Commiss ion ERRIN voted and approved the workshop I proposed dur ing the European Desing Days 2016 where the main theme was “ the Design as st ra teg ica l inst rument to suppor t the reg iona l deve lop-ment” . Th is seminary wi l l main ly be focused on the issue about the Pordenone Design Week, which is the exh ib i t ion where companies and young des igners would compare each other to so lve problems regard ing the manufactur ing system of the ter r i tor y. School today is f ina l ly opening the eyes on the change t r y ing, even i f a lone i t is imposs ib le, to leave the image of a d is t r ibutor of g iven and acqui red knowledge to teach the student a profess iona l fu ture and the Design is not f ree of se l f - re ference, past and mind c losure. Meanwhi le i t is the actua l knowle-dge that appears in a very d i f fe rent way: today knowing is l ike a mosaic a l though wi thout a rea l f ina l des ign that is typ ica l o f a soc iety, we are creat ing i t s tep by step, b i t by b i t .

So a knowledge open source and dynamic and above a l l in ter-d isc ip l inary and exper ient ia l . Rea l ly, the wor ld of the job is changed deeply. We need bra ins cu l tured but a lso f lex ib le, open and wi l l ing to change. By now the Univers i ty of the future wi l l be f i f ty f i f ty because do not ex is t reso lvable problems f rom a s ing le mind and th is s tatement would take much more t ime. Today at the f i f th ed i t ion, we can say that the enterpr ise is par t o f the school and between the th is two rea l i t ies there are many bar r ie rs of d is t rust or of haught iness. None of the two rea l i t ies has in fer ior i ty complex and ar rogance. We are a l l in the same boat especia l ly the young ent re-preneurs and des igners, we want to break the too long deadlock and in to lerab le land system. An unexpected success that cou ld be a model a lso for an ana logous context . Af ter a l l , i t very easy, a l l is born f rom the d ia logue but obv ious ly… you must have the wi l l ing to get i t .

The objective of a good today designer is that to plan a perfectsymbiosis between form and function?

Which are the essential skills for a young designer?

University and the world of the job are not separate realities but theytry to interweave the synergies, what can you say about it thatconcerns the one of the school?
