2 Building Designers Competency
Road Map for Designer Competency
In the modern era, the Product Development Cycle is shrinking, demanding faster New Product Development
cycle. The need for developing new products with zero defects at the time of launch is increasing due to
competition.
These developments has enhanced the competency requirements of the designers who generally focuses on
technical competency & ignorant of the improved product introduction process applying many qualit y planning
tools. In addition to time & quality in design, most of the designers are not accountable for the cost of the product
since the cost is estimated after design is completed and often find the market does not find the value for money
for new products.
In order to address the above issues, the product introduction process is built in many quality tools which the
designer is supposed to apply to get first-time-right, on time and cost-effective new product design. Keeping the
above in mind, SSA Tech has developed the below Competency Development Program for New product
development Cross functional teams.

2.1 Basic Certification Program for Junior Engineers
Why This Program?

The development of converting fresh engineers to product designers has always been a challenge for the
industries. This is due to the fact the academic engineering education does not cover many technical
details pertaining to the vast scope of product design requirements of modern industries.
This results in a long gestation period for the designers community to develop these engineers as fully
fledged designers before they could productively support the design and development ability of the
organizations.
Moreover the consequential liabilities of the designs produced by these entry level engineers are
enormous as the investments and time to market the new products are all always challenged due to the
errors in the design.
The senior design engineers have limited time available to train and develop these young engineers and
often rely on On-the-job-Training (OJT) which is extremely risky due to the reasons stated above.
SSA Tech identified the above deficiency of the budding Product Designers and developed a
comprehensive Basic Program.
Basic Program which systematically imparts the necessary product design competency covering an
extensive range of mechanical component designs.
This is a unique and comprehensive training package with hands-on exercises.

above in mind, SSA Tech has developed the below Competency Development Program for New product
development Cross functional team.
Approach for Senior Design Excellence Certification Program
Approach for the Senior Design Excellence Certification Program is as follows
Senior Basics covers the overview of the NPI process, concepts and the overview of tools and techniques. In the

NC has authored the famous pocket book Lean Six Sigma in a nutshell, Enigma of Lean & Statistical Software
Guide in addition to several publications in the press.
Lean Six Sigma in a nutshell Pocket Guide
As the title suggests, this is designed as a perfect and easy-to-follow guide for understanding
and applying Lean Six Sigma effectively. This serves as a good reference guide to the
practitioners of Lean Six Sigma in the service as well as in the
manufacturing industries.
Enigma of Lean Guide to unravel the mystery of Lean
This guide is also aptly titled to suit its endeavour. This is designed more as
a text book for the benefit of the existing practitioners as well as the beginners. The examples
given alongside the methodologies taught, enables easy understanding of Lean to anyone who
wishes to learn.
Stats Guide This explains in a very simple way the statistical tools used in different phases of DMAIC the
problem solving method used by Six Sigma Practitioners. This facilitates clear understanding of
the real-world application of Six Sigma tools without needing to have any background in
statistics or Minitab.
He has been conferred upon the Vocational Excellence Award by the Rotary Club for his relentless efforts in the
field of Business Consulting and Process Engineering throughout his career. He has been awarded the Rashtr iya
Udyog Ratna Award 2011 by National Education and Human Resource Development Organization (NEHRDO) for
