DESCRIPTION

Design of Column & Internals- Overview

TRANSCRIPT

The vapor compositions predicted by the method of Mixon et al. are in excellent agreement with those predicted by the two-parameter activity coefficient models represented by the Margules model. For example, the calculated values of the vapor compositions by these two methods are given in Tables 6.26.8 for the chosen sets of data. Further, the vapor compositions predicted by the Margules model using the MLH method and the Genetic algorithm are given in Tables 6.9.a 6.9.g. for the chosen sets of data.

ContentsBASIC OPERATION OF DISTILLATION COLUMN

Distillation is a process in which a liquid or vapour mixture of two or more substances is separated into its component fractions of desired purity, by the application and removal of heat.

It is a unit operation and the components to be separated depends on the differences in boiling points of the individual components. Also, depending on the concentrations of the components present .

1. Trays /Plates 2. Packings

Bubble Cap / Valve traysIn valve trays / Bubble Cap trays, perforations are covered by liftable caps. Vapour flows lifts the caps, thus self creating a flow area for the passage of vapour. The lifting cap directs the vapour to flow horizontally into the liquid, thus providing better mixing
