CONTENTSHi!My name’s Scott, I’m 22 years old and a Loughborough University Graduate.

Spending four years learning how to design for a wide range of disciplines was fun, but now it would be great to start specialising in the ‘real world’, and this is why I have sent you my portfolio.

Over the next few pages you will find a range of projects I have worked on by myself, for my course and for a few big companies that I’ve been fortunate enough to work with.

I hope you see something you like!

6 MONTH PLACEMENT

In September 2014 I was fortunate enough to gain a work placement within Caerphilly County Borough Council. During my time with the council I worked on a wide variety of projects and was taught how to produce work to a high standard and create artwork to be published across many platforms including print and digital.

The following section will showcase a handful of projects that were completed during the placement.

Project BriefThe winter ‘keep well and warm’ campaign has been running for many years in the county borough. Whilst working with the council I was given the opportunity to give the campaign a facelift. The results are shown below.

BRANDING PROJECTS

As an Industrial Design student we had little chance to gain branding experience within our course, so in order to learn how to brand a company we would have to create our own design briefs and source online tutorials to learn the necessary skills and techniques.

The following section will showcase branding projects that were set by myself in order to improve my branding skills .

9 | Roundhouse Martial Arts | Branding

Roundhouse Martial Arts is a fictional company created purely for a branding exercise. The brief was to create a martial arts company that stood out from the crowd with a user friendly image that didn’t intimidate potential members.

The ‘roundhouse’ kick, which is common throughout many disciplines, provided a strong company name as a starting point. The logo was then created with the idea that two tone colouring could be used for numerous sub-brands for the company.

The sub-brands mentioned on the previous page are shown below. The two tone colouring allows for a simple but effective differentiation between the sub-brands.

General Brand Logo...

Company Contact Info

The company would also need to advertising on their vehicle when moving between classes. The livery includes a enlarged general brand logo and contact details for anyone that’s interested in gaining more information.

12 | 4Example | Brand Identity Exersice

The 4example brand is a fictional company providing a ‘gift idea’ service. This exercise was to create a variety of stationary with the company branding.

UNIVERSITY PROJECTS

During my 4 years at University I was able to work on many projects including product design, interaction design, packaging design and graphic design within my third year placement.

I was fortunate enough to work along side some market leading companies such as Logitech, Molsen Coors and ShakeAway.

The following section will showcase a range of projects that I undertook at University including the work with the companies stated above.

14 | Logitech iPad Gaming Device | Product Design

In my final year at university I was fortunate enough to get my final year project sponsored by Logitech. This meant working closely with designers based in Logitech’s European design office and designing to their brand guidelines.

15 | Logitech iPad Gaming Device | Product Design

The product was designed to improve iPad gaming for the release of iOS7. The product can be used as an attachment or separately to the tablet.

It’s collapsable so it feels very similar to a console controller when using it for non-touch games and controlling your media from further than arms length.

The action buttons on the control can change and adapt to what ever it’s being used for as they’re stood on an LED base that projects the button image from below.

Whilst using it as an attachment you can charge up the device and the tablet at the same time using the micro USB cable and 30pin iPad connection within the device.

sponsored by

In February 2014 I got to work on a brief set by Molsen Coors, as part of Loughborough University Design Week, in order to create a new alcoholic beverage brand.

We had one week to complete the task and this was the end result. The designs were then judged by representitives of Molsen Coors and this design finished in the top 5.

17 | ShakeAway | 6 Month Graphic Design Placement

As part of my university course I was able to spend 6 months working with ShakeAway Worldwide ltd.

During my time on placement I learned how to take a design from a concept phase and design it to be released on multiple platforms, whether it’s printed as a flyer, poster or billboard or set up to be used online as a web banner or website image.

I also worked as the marketing assistant over the 6 months and created in store and online promotions as shown here.

18 | Loughborough Students’ Sports App | UI Design

Project briefThe aim of this project was to create a mobile app for the use of Loughborough University students. As sport is the biggest common interest with the students in Loughborough it made for an easy decision to create the sports app.

The homepage of the the app is shown here in its tablet and mobile form.
