What makes a student pick this school over any other? The answer is the unique and modern approach to a culinary education. Unlike most culinary colleges the, College of Culinary Entertainment incorporates the concept of food as entertainment. Not only does the first floor kitchen feature an open kitchen offering a live cooking display tocustomers, but the building also contains six studio demonstrationkitchens. These studios satisfy a variety of programmatic functions from broadcasting cooking shows to standard cooking classes/lessons,and are housed by node-like structures all enclosed by a double skin curtain wall facade system. This form was driven by the idea of entertainment anchors spread throughout a rational open space.

Pod Performance The pods also serve as important mechanical elements in the buildings design. As seen on the right, the top section of each pod, (which protrude through the roof) is a mechanical room withspace for mechanical equipment such as air handling units and HVAC systems. The arrows on the right sidediagram signify the systems that run through the walls of each pod. Air can be pumped in between the tube steel structure(dotted line) and the interior walls. This space can also be used for the ventilation systems for the hoods in each kitchen. The image on the left displays the structure of the pods, which have large openingsin each floor level for a open cooking and filming experience. Cladding the pods interior and exterior is a stainless steel skin used for its durability and superior qualities for the culinary industry.

spring 2012digital fabricationinstructor - marcel de lange

This was the final project for my senior year digital fabrication class. A solid surface of the curve was produced digitally using Rhino3D andsliced into a series of vertical(x) and horizontal(y) ribs. These ribs werethen sent through a CNC machine to cut each unique piece out of different thicknesses of plywood, which were then stained and assembled to create a six foot by six foot screen wall as seen in thefollowing images.

Aiming to provide an ideal living environment for a typicalfamily located in the breckenridge area. Offering plently of space for an average size family and guests, the home also recieves plenty of exposure to natural sun light and gorgeous views. The use of panel board formed concrete both on the interior and exterior help create a sense of connection to the mountain side on which it sits.

spring 2012instructor - marcel de lange

Seen previously in this booklet, the sine screen was the final projectfor this semester long class, so this sections is included to show thework produced throughout the semester. I became proficient with rhino3D, dove into the complex world of grasshopper as a plug-infor rhino, explored the possibilities of v-ray for photo realistic renderings, and had the opportunity to advance my skills with CNCmachines, laser cutters, and 3-D printing.

This exercise addressed the possibilities of building skins designedas performative elements, with the assignment to create a space togather and hold people. The two identical curved wall installationscreate a center space which is revealed by different sized apertures in the honey-comb structure. The cell of each web isdesigned to move several inches in and out of the wall, allowingfor users to interact and create something that virtually never looksthe same, with the intent to draw people in to have more than justa visual interaction.

fall 20121400 Wazee St. Denver,COinstructor - erik summerfeldmuseum for a useful object

The site of this project sits along cherry creek, which contains botha pedestrian path on one side of the creek, and a bike path along the other. The remaining three sides of the site are all existing urban structures creating a significant contrast from the natural and urban contexts. The design of the museum aims to relate thethis contrast to the different experiences of different styles of bikeriding through light qualities, material use, and circulation, whileproviding social space for the biking community to gather separate of museum functions. A large P.V. panel feature wraps the southwest corner of the museum creating a light quality relative to beamsof light streaking through a tree canopy one might find while ridinga bicycle, as well as speaks to the environmental nature of bike riding in a transportation sense. The museum portion of the building consists of a frosted double skin system slightly revealing the exhibits and actions inside to the public, while allowing for passive heating and cooling systems.

Design Goals.

+ Address the contrast of urban and natural contexts adjacent to the site

+ Relate site contexts to the experiences of a bike ride (Urban v Natural elements) -Light Qualities -Material Qualities -Circulation

+ Create social spaces tied with both urban and natural contexts to collect and circulate people o the streets and creek path

+ Establish a gathering place for biking community

+ Engage Cherry Creek Path

+ Reveal museum galleries to public

+ Speak to the cultural and environmental nature of bicycles in todays world
