“Design Studio introduces students to Parsons’ design methodology of: research, problem-solving, concept development, sketching and prototyping, teamwork,

user-testing, presenting a finished product and written reflection.”

Exploring 3 Design Disciplines

“Students then apply this process to two projects in which they explore the disciplines of Fashion, Communication and Product Design.”

Project 2: Chindogu Project 1: Urban Adaptation

Project 1: Urban Adaptation Fashion + Communication Design Overview of the Fashion Design Iteration Process •  Develop a concept and motif for a garment •  Create a mood board for your garment •  Learn to draw the croquis and create fashion Illustrations •  Design and construct your own garment •  Create a fashion editorial photo shoot of your garment in NYC •  Design a typeface using Adobe Illustrator •  Design a logo for your brand in Adobe Illustrator •  Design and laser cut a hangtag for your garment using Adobe Illustrator •  Professionally document and reflect upon your design process and final product

Project 2: Chindogu Product + Communication Design Overview of the Product Design Iteration Process •  Develop a concept and function for a product •  Create 3-D prototypes and user-test your design concept •  Learn analytic drawings skill and create technical drawings of your product •  Design and construct your own functioning/semi-functioning product using industrial materials and tools •  Create a brand for your product through the design of a logo + tagline •  Produce a poster-sized product design brief using Adobe Photoshop •  Film and edit a mock-u-mercial that advertises the function of your product •  Professionally document and reflect upon your design process and final product

Using Analog & Digital Tools

“Students are also introduced to the fundamentals of drawing and are encouraged to experiment with sketching and illustration techniques, digital tools in Adobe Creative Suite, digital photography, and 3D materials, tools and processes.”

Museum Exhibitions

“Project work is supplemented with visits to relevant exhibitions in the city, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum.”
