DESCRIPTION

At the end of the tour of the d.school space (in the first video segment of this week), I pointed to a wall that displayed examples of student reflections. These were created by the students after going through a couple of design challenges in an introductory course. Here is one of them up close (reproduced with permission - Thanks, Monica!): The goal of this practice is for students to become mindful of how they approach challenges, and reflect on how they personally experienced the different stages and underlying mindsets of the design process. In the words of John Maeda, President of the Rhode Island School of Design, “Making a process visible, makes a practice reflectable.” We are yet to dive into a design challenge (coming next week, yay!), but let’s start practicing with making your current problem-solving process visible: think back to the exercise in the “Do Now” at the end of video # 3 - Process (see below), and create a graphic representation of the process you proposed to solve the problem. Problem: Suppose you have been hired to re-design the student lockers at a large public high school. What PROCESS would you use to tackle this project? Describe the most important steps. Special Instructions The format for submitting this assignment is up to you. Feel free to use whatever medium you are most comfortable with (or try a new one!). It could be: a. jpeg, png or other image you can insert in the rich text editor (you can draw on paper and then snap a photo of it or scan it) b. powerpoint slide (please upload to Slideshare or Google Docs and use the button "insert media" to enter the url, or include the link in the text editor). c. a Prezi link (if you don’t know prezi, it’s a really cool cloud-based presentation tool - see prezi.com).

STEP Nº2 SPACE DYNAMICS CONNECTION WITH PEOPLE; PEOPLE INSIGHTS.

Always having the human experience in mind (as opposed to just thinking about the “features” of a given solution) will allow us to solve problems in a way that really makes a difference.
