Lighting by the LC Doane Company has withstood the worst environments and toughest abuse onboard U.S. naval vessels since 1947. Engineering and manufacturing quality heavy-duty fixtures, we set the standards for today’s submarine and surface ship lighting. Navy fixtures are First Article qualified for shock, vibration, closure, noise, lumen maintenance and other conditions for combat readiness.
Utilizing our experience with shipboard lighting we have been building tough, reliable lights for other demanding environments including industrial, correctional, institutional and commercial marine – setting new records in durability and performance. Everything we engineer and manufacture, whether from our standard product line or a custom, specialty design goes through rigorous testing.
As a total product manufacturer from fabrication through finished assembly – LC Doane controls the entire process of creating solutions for your lighting needs. Working in cold rolled steel, aluminum and stainless steel, we use gas tungsten arc with pulse arc fusion welding methods for the cleanest, most consistent welds possible on all seams. All parts are polyester powder coated in-house after fabrication, ensuring smooth edges and a high-quality, long-lasting fixture.

At LC Doane, we understand the need for the reliability of lighting products in a variety of demanding environments. Buy American - ARRA
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 requires that any public project it funds use material and goods manufactured in the United States.
At The LC Doane Company, we manufacture all our products domestically within our 150,000 square foot facility in Ivoryton, Connecticut. When you specify an LC Doane luminaire, you specify an American light fixture that exceeds ARRA requirements.
We cut, form, weld and paint our own sheet metal; we form many of our lenses; and assemble each luminaire to completion, all under one
roof. Any part requiring a production process beyond our in-house capabilities is handled by one of our independent US fabricators. All purchased components are sourced through US suppliers or bought directly from US manufacturers.
Our Roof
While manufacturing occurs under one roof, the power source is now created on top of our roof. Installed in October 2008, a field of solar panels provide us with clean energy right on-site. Another level of US-made, environmentally conscience manufacturing.

LED Technology
In today’s world of high efficiency LED lighting, overall fixture efficiency is of the utmost importance. Niche products for harsh environments such as confinement, cleanroom and high abuse applications often lack the high efficiency and performance that is available in standard architectural fixtures. The combination of our Proprietary LED Module, Programmable Driver, and Optic Plus lens allows us to provide some of the highest Lumens/Watt available.
There are many avenues to re-designing and populating a fixture line with LED technology. The road we chose was to design our own Discrete LED Module and completely re-design the reflector and heat-sink assemblies for every fixture. The end result: Some of the most efficient LED fixtures designed for harsh environments.

(SO) Specified Output Option
In addition to establishing factory preset output choices, LC Doane offers the Specified Output option. This allows the end user or consulting engineer to specify the required output, a valuable feature for our made-to-order fixtures. Additionally, this allows us to meet or match any specified fixture output and provide data for the input watts and delivered lumens for each fixture type. Example: SO(49/5900)

LC Doane Security fixtures have been designed for use in all levels of security facilities and high abuse applications and are available in a variety of mounting configurations: ceiling surface, wall mount, corner mount, recessed flange and grid as well as specialty fixtures for unique applications.
Security Levels
There are no hard and fast rules for the gauge of material, lens thickness and construction style used in confinement facilities. Each state will have some of their own requirements, as well as the criteria determined by the specifier and facility owners. Below is a rough blueprint of the different security levels and the suggested material:

Fixture Styles – Surface Mount
There are two main surface mount fixture styles for confinement facilities: Clamshell and Non-Clamshell. The decision on which fixture style to use is outlined in the Security Levels section.

Fixture Styles – Recessed
Similar to surface mounted fixtures, there are different styles of recessed fixtures, depending on the ceiling type and security level required. Most facilities are hard ceiling applications. On our Recessed Flange – Outset Door fixture, the door extends outside the flange providing another level of security. These LC Doane fixtures are used for all levels of security, but ideal for Medium and above. Additionally, we manufacture flange, grid and specialty ceiling system fixtures with a one piece door.

Lens and Lens Retention Lens retention is an important feature of any confinement fixture and LC Doane rises to the challenge with 14 gauge CRS full length lens retainers. Our lens assemblies can accommodate all the required lens combinations, including .750” CTG outer lens used in some of the Super Max Facilities. We use a K12 acrylic inner lens for most Fluorescent applications, and our Optic Plus inner lens for most LED applications.
The Optic Plus lens is designed specifically for LED sources, completely hiding the diode image while providing 95% light transmission.

Construction
In addition to providing quality lighting for exacting applications, the primary function of a Cleanroom fixture is to keep particle matter from going from the plenum through or around the fixture and into the space. LC Doane fixtures have been designed from the ground up to meet these stringent requirements and specifications. Our Cleanroom housings are fully enclosed, welded, ground smooth and painted after fabrication. With our standard one piece outset door to further seal the enclosure you can rely on LC Doane to keep contaminant from entering the space. All LC Doane housings and doors are available in CRS, Aluminum and Stainless Steel.
Application
The facilities and applications are different today than they were when our line of quality Cleanroom fixtures were first introduced. Our Cleanroom fixtures were originally designed for Pharmaceutical and PCB manufacturing. However, the same principle applies to today’s environments. You will find applications for LC Doane Cleanroom fixtures in:
