Export PhoneBookto vCard

Information

Desktop Contacts v0.8

The idea of creating this tool came to me after trying to transfer the phonebook of my old mobile phone which had multiple entries for each contact to my new UIQ phone. The only way to do that was by synchronising the old phone with Outlook and then synchronise the new phone with Outlook. I noticed though that a lot of contacts were lost during this procedure. The only way to get all data from my old phone was to export these to a *.csv (comma delimited values) file but there was no way of importing this to the new UIQ phone.

This tool is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which uses a macro to export data to the vCard format (*.vcf). UIQ phones can recognize vCard files and import the contained contacts to their phonebook. You can either copy your old mobile phone contacts to this spreadsheet or just manually type in any new contact you want to add to your new phone.

The procedure is the following:- Export data from your old phone (by using a compatible program) and copy them to the suitable columns or alternatively enter the new contact data to the spreadsheet.- You can choose the preferred number of each contact by entering a "p" at column P on the left of the desired number.- Press "Export PhoneBook to vCard"- Choose the name of the exported vCard file.- Transfer this file to the UIQ phone (e.g. using a cable, infrared or Bluetooth connection) and run it within your phone (use an internal file manager if needed)- All contacts are now imported to the phonebook. You can now delete the vCard file from your phone.

Please be aware of the following:- You can enter or delete data in any way as long as you do not insert or delete columns, cut data or alter the spreadsheet structure. The latter could result in a non functioning macro.- You can use this tool as many times as you wish to import data. Importing vCard files do not delete your old contacts- I have tested the vCard files that are created with this tool with my UIQ phone. The format I have used for the vCard file is generic so it is most likely that this can work with any phone that supports vCard files containing either one contact or multiple contacts.- There are a lot of columns in the spreadsheet that you will not find useful but I tried to create a generic tool which covers as many cases as possible.- The VBA source code is not locked or hidden in any way so you can freely check it or alter it as you like. Please do not distribute any altered code before contacting the source from which you obtained the original code as this could result in the chaotic phenomenon of multiple versions of the same file.- I have thoroughly tested this macro for any errors but please remember that you should use it at your own risk! I carry no liability for any losses that may result by the use of this program.

I hope you will find this tool useful.
