1 Assembly of Excellence This was a magnificent celebration of excellence, encouragement, talent and improvement. Congratulations to all of the award winners and Athletics champions. Very well deserved. The dance performances were tremendous and the Cheer Leading Group was sensational. The choir and band sounded great. A big congratulations to our hosts, Kindergarten students Anna R, Nathaniel W, Dylan S and our School Captains Rhianna T and Tony T on a job well done. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the organisation of this very enjoyable celebration particularly Mr Baker and Mr Lindner. Thank you to Miss Carson, Mrs Falk, Mrs Dignum, Mrs Brassey and Mrs Hamilton for coordinating the performances. Rugby League Grand Final Congratulations to our rugby league team on a brilliant effort last Friday in the State PSSA Rugby League grand final. The boys had an experience that they will remember for a very long time to come. The game was very close and hard fought. The score was 12 8 at half time with both sides scoring two tries apiece. Both teams displayed solid defence with no score added to either team in the second stanza. Young PS, in particular displayed grime and desperate defence. WPS were camped in Young’s half for the majority of the second half. However, we just couldn’t crack their line. Credit must go to Young PS. They were deserved winners on the day. Our boys, due to some Wauchope connections had some more unexpected surprises on the day. A past WPS student Warren Carney who is the Managing Director of a company called CSM International presented every boy with a new pair of football boots and a pair of shorts. The boys also received a Red V supporter’s bag and some posters. The main highlight, however, was the coach of St George Illawarra Steve Price came into our dressing room and spoke to the boys in a pre-game talk. Thank you to the Theofanou family for arranging these special extras. A huge congratulations to coach Mr Sallustio. I know he was very proud of the boys and was very nervous throughout. He has achieved a very special moment in his teaching career that I’m sure he will look back on with fond memories later in life. I was relieved when the boys touch football team defeated Corindi PS this week to take his mind off the league. Thank you to the wonderful support we received from the boy’s parents, families and community. I know everyone is as proud of the boys as I am. Reward Day The majority of our students received a free ice cream yesterday and some extra free time. This was a reward for following the school rules Show Respect, Follow Instructions and Be Safe. SAS Staff We had a thank you morning tea this morning to acknowledge and thank our wonderful non- teaching staff. On behalf of the teachers I say thank you to our friendly front office staff, our lovely School Learning Support Officers, our Aboriginal Education Workers and General Assistant. Ladies and gentlemen, we would be lost without you. We appreciate everything you do for the children and families of WPS.

Assembly of Excellence

This was a magnificent celebration of excellence, encouragement, talent and improvement.

Dance Eisteddfod I’m looking forward to this evening’s Dance Eisteddfods. Good luck to our Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 dance groups. You know that there will be one very proud principal in the audience. Thank you in advance to Mrs Rock, Miss Hollis and Mrs Dignum for their time, energies and effort for this evening.

Sport

I have heard that last Friday’s K-2 athletics carnival was a great success. Everyone had a lot of fun. Thank you to all WPS family members who could attend, our P&C for running the canteen and Mr Beard and the K-2 staff for their organisation and efforts on the day. Congratulations to the boys touch team for defeating Corindi PS 12 – 4 and commiserations to the girls’ team who were narrowly defeated by Bellingen PS 3-2.

Book Parade Good luck to everyone at the Book Parade tomorrow. I know there will be hundreds of fantastic costumes and I’m guessing there may be a large number of aliens at our school.

Fete Collection Week Thank you to all families who donated items last week.

NAPLAN Results delay The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has advised Test Administration Authorities that it has identified an error in the placement of the national average markers on Years 5 and 7 NAPLAN Student Reports in Language Conventions. ACARA is devising a strategy to address the issue quickly, however, distribution of Student Reports to schools will be delayed. On advice from ACARA, it is anticipated that 2013 NAPLAN Student Reports will be delivered to schools across Australia from 8–11 October, with distribution of reports to parents to occur in the week Monday 14 to Friday 18 October.

Happy Holidays Term 4 promises to be outrageous with the amount of work and extra-curricular activities planned. One of the most exciting events will be our P&C School Fete on Saturday 19 October. I hope everyone can attend. We will hold 2014 student leadership speeches and elections, Semester 2 reports will be written, Year 6 will go to Canberra, Year 4 will go to Forster, we will have pool parties, a movie day, talent quest, learn to swim scheme, our choir will sing at the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Entertainment Centre. We will have discos and the K-2 Christmas concert just to name a few. It will also be the last term of Primary school for Year 6. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made this another great term at WPS. On behalf of the WPS staff I wish everyone a happy, safe and relaxing holiday period. I hope families get to spend some quality time together if possible. Safe driving/flying to any families lucky enough to be going on a holiday.

Touch Football The Wauchope Public School open boys touch football team travelled to Nambucca Heads yesterday to play Corindi P.S in round 6 of the statewide PSSA knockout. Wauchope came out eventual winners 12-4, displaying great skills in attack and defence. Try scores were Tony T (3), Josh G (2), Jack P (2), Bayley P (2), Sam I (1), Bailey M (1) and Lachlan M (1). Special mentions go to David H, Loc H and Jayden B.

The team has now progressed through to the North Coast final and are one game away from representing WPS at the state finals. Well Done !

Rugby League Last Friday the WPS rugby league team travelled to Jubilee Oval, Kogarah, (home of the St George Dragons!) to play Young P.S in the state classic shield final. The boys played a hard, tough and spirited game. WPS was first to score early in the match, courtesy of a strong run to the line by David H. The try went unconverted and WPS led 4-0. To Young's credit, they hit back with two quick tries, converting both and going ahead 12-4. WPS scored next, thanks to some brilliant ball movement from the backline and from this display of skill, David H was again able to cross the line for his second try of the match. The conversion was flagged unsuccessful and WPS went into the halftime break trailing 12-8. The second half remained scoreless, due to brilliant defensive displays by both teams, resulting in the final score remaining 12-8 to Young P.S.

The WPS team can hold their heads up high. The school, wider community, Mr Osborne and myself are truly proud of the achievements the team has made this year. Being state finalists is a huge honour! Congratulations to Jayden B, Hayden W, David H, Bayley P, Lachlan M, Tony T, Jack P, Reece A, Sam I, Loc H, Noah T, Bailey M, Trai B, Josh H, Harrison W, Sam F, Harvey B and Jarrod G.

Thank you to all the parents and family members who supported and transported the boys up and down the coast this year. A special thanks goes to the Theofanou family for your generosity and hard work in organising sporting apparel for the team. -Mr Sallustio-

Library News – Book Week Celebrations Wauchope Public School celebrates Book Week in the last week of Term 3. We culminate in a Book Week Parade on the last day of the term, Friday 20 September. The theme for Book Week this year is “Reading Across the Universe”, so creative students (and parents) may like to come dressed up as aliens or space travellers, or as their favourite book character. The parade starts at 9.15am and everyone is invited to attend. Students who are dressed in costume have the chance to win a prize during the parade. We will then march down town at approximately 10.15am and hope the 50cent Tuck Shop will start at about 11.15am on the day. The Book Fair closes at 12pm on Friday 20 September.

School Holiday Fun Thanks To Council Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will help ensure there’s plenty on offer across the region these coming September/October school holidays. At Laurieton Library, there will be a special story time and craft session on Wednesday, September 25, between 10.30am and 11.30am. Children of all ages are being encouraged to take along their Grandma or Grandpa, Nanna or Pop to share in a morning of stories, craft and games. The Laurieton Library is located in Laurie Street, Laurieton and is open Monday to Friday 9.30am-5pm and Saturdays 9am-12 noon. Over the two weeks of the holidays the library will also have a giant jigsaw to solve and plenty of board games to keep the children entertained. There will also be plenty of creative fun at the Glasshouse in Port Macquarie.

47

On Monday, September 30, children between the ages of 3 and 5 will have great fun making monkey masks and going a little ‘bananas’ as part of a fun Monkey Madness creative class between 10am and 11am costing just $10. On Tuesday, October 1, it will be time for the 6-12 years to get involved, with a wonderful opportunity to create amazing sculptures inspired by Kathy Temin’s sculptural fur ‘Black Gardens’, currently on exhibition in the Glasshouse Regional Gallery. The two-hour session will run from 10am to 12 noon at a cost of $15 per student. On Wednesday, October 2, students will be encouraged to seek inspiration from another artist exhibiting at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery, Daniel Boyd and to create images using lots of different spots in the ‘pointillism’ style of the great masters. The class runs from 10am-12 noon for 6-12 year olds at a cost of $15 per student. On Thursday, October 3, children will have the opportunity to create their own snow dome cities using plastic objects and recycled bits and bobs while on Friday, October 4 it will be time to create some funky tie dye t-shirts. Both of these workshops are aimed at 6 to 12 years and will run from 10am to 12 noon. The cost will be $15 per child. Those children taking part in the tie dye workshop will also need to take along at least one cotton t-shirt or other coloured shirts. Moonlight Movies will also be making a return to the Port Macquarie-Hastings region over the school holiday period. Movies will be screened at Kendall Sportsground on Thursday, October 3, at Bain Park in Wauchope on Friday, October 4 and at Port Macquarie’s Town Green on Saturday, October 5. The Moonlight Movies have grown increasingly popular in recent years and movie-goers will be in for a real treat these holidays with some top movies to be screened including The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in Kendall, Parental Guidance in Wauchope and The Life of Pi in Port Macquarie. All three movies are rated PG and should prove popular with families. All movies will commence at 6.40pm and will be free of charge.
