History
Education gameTomas Bata realized very early on the importanceof not only looking after his employees, but alsotraining and educating them, since educated,self-reliant and prospective employees serve as aguarantee for the future success of the company. They are its hope. Batas vision formed the basisfor setting up Bata schools.
He himself lacked any higher education. He firststarted thinking about how to go about developing
his employees back in 1909, when preparing anew vision for the future new Zln. Even back thenhe counted on building an entire school district inZln providing the basis for a Bata education.
The Tomas Bata Shoe Schoolwas founded as the first businessschool in Europe.
Little by little the whole systemof industrial education came intobeing. Over time, the Bata Schoolof Work not only incorporatedshoemakers, but also electricians, chemists, mechanists, buildersand others.
Batas important Education Game got under-
way on 15th September 1925. It was at this timethat the Bata School of Work opened its doors tostudents. The school was for boys with 80 pupilsentering the first grade. From the beginning, itfocused on professional training and consistentsocial education. The boys at the Bata School ofWork grew up as confident and skilled young meneducated to the highest possible level, able tounderstand and find their way around the organi-zation, administration and management.
Four years later, the boys school was joined bythe newly formed girls school. The girls werecalled young women and the boys young men.
The number of those interested in studying at theBata School of Work was constantly on the rise.In 1934, 19,000 applicants applied to be admitted, with the school accepting 1,000-1,500 studentseach year.
Students from Around the WorldDescend on the Bata SchoolIt wasnt just citizens of Czechoslovakia who were
interested in being educated at the Bata School.Leadership positions to work at Bata factoriesand stores abroad were for instance taken upby12 Indians, 14 Englishmen, 28 French, 36 Ger-mans and 136 Yugoslavs. The BSW also trainedAmericans, Dutch, Egyptians, Poles, Bulgariansand Romanians.
The BSW only admitted students who had com-pleted town schools, i.e. primary schools. The ageranged from 14-15 years. The study programmelasted three years. The education comprised ofthree parts: work in the plant, evening classes inthe school and training in the boarding house.
New students gained their first experience in theinduction workshop, the so-called shoemakerschool. New employees under the supervision ofexperienced instructors acquired their first jobskills.
The principle of your own earningsYoure fifteen, earn your living! This was theclear and logical principle in training new ap-prentices. Apprentices kept their yearbooks,in which they recorded the amounts of weeklywages, deductions for insurance, accommo-
dation, tuition, meals and shopping for every-day needs, or travel expenses, allowances toparents and pocket money. Yearbooks weresubmitted each week to their educators tocheck. The apprentices deposited the result-ing surplus into their personal accounts. TheBata Company guaranteed interest of 10%on it.
Schools offered their education wherever theyopened new plants, E.g. in Baovo, in Teb, inZru nad Szavou, in Sezimovo st, in Baovanyand in Svit under Tatras.
The Bata School of Work became the basis forbuilding industrial and commercial educationin Zln. Activities of the schools ended with thearrival of the communist regime in the CzechRepublic in 1948.

The Bata educational system was really ingen-ious. Thanks to this, the number of inhabitants inZln soon multiplied, which in turn led to growthin terms of the number of employees at Bata too.
Graduates, young men and young women, foundit easy to apply their skills. Not only at Bata com-pany, but also in other businesses. Not to mentionin other countries and continents. And it wasntjust skills and expertise that Bata School gradu-ates took with them when they left. Their biggest
advantage in the labour market was cohesion,
patriotism, honour, assiduity, self-reliance andcourage.
Wake up andwarm-up! Themagic of board-ing houses
Students came to studyat the Bata School ofWork not only from allover the country, but alsofrom different parts of theworld. Logically, hostels -(school) boarding houseswere built for students. Ofcourse, they were dividedinto boys boarding housesand boarding houses forgirls. The boarding houses had many other, quitemeaningful rules. The alarm-clock started ring-ing every morning at five-thirty. This was imme-
diately followed by heading out for morning exer-cise, performed both in summer and winter. Timewas then allocated for personal hygiene, tidyingrooms followed by breakfast. If you were thinkingthat this was followed by school classes and abit of work experience in the afternoon, then youcouldnt get further from the truth. By seven eve-ryone had started their work in the factory. Theycontinued their practice in the afternoon with onlyone longer break for lunch. Within two hours, theyall managed to have lunch and had some freetime for themselves.
From two to five oclock in the afternoon theyagain worked and had to wait until dinner finished
before starting their education. The subjectsincluded German and English language courseswith some subjects which students could selectfor themselves. Days finished with a nine oclockcurfew. Saturdays included studies and sports.Sundays were free. In 1932 2,800 girls and 2,700boys lived at the boarding houses.
Origin and history of the BSGClub (Bata School Graduates)Over time Bata School of Work graduates set uptheir own club. This was founded as a voluntaryorganization, and most certainly had no politicalambitions. Only Bata School of Work graduates
were able to become members of the club whosemission was to offer activities relating to educa-tion, sports and entertainment. The clubs head-
quarters were located on the third floor of theformer Community House and its first presidentwas Tomas Bata Jr. (son of Tomas Bata).
The BSG Club also published its own journal until1938 called The BSG Club Newsletter. Start-ing in 1939 the publication went by the nameForward including the subtitle The BSG ClubNewsletter.
Branches of the club burgeoned in the CzechRepublic like mushrooms after rain. Finally, they went international - sprouting up in Berlin,
Germany, Konnagar, India and also in Borova,Yugoslavia.
Tomasovs Elite StudentsTomasov was the school for the best selected students from Bata schools. The Tomasov house wasbuilt in 1938 and its designer was the famous Czech architect, F. L. Gahura. Bata went by the mottoTo have skilled co-workers, we need to educate them, and this was even more applicable in thecase of managerial cadres.
People from Tomasov (Tomasovci) were prepared for leadership positions in modern enterprisesworldwide. This corresponded with the top quality of teaching. At school among other things theywere taught foreign languages, etiquette and communication, while during the day they worked.
On the walls of the factories and Tomasov you could read mottos that may sound funny today, butwhich at that time took on enormous importance: Be the first, be winners, Fight is the father ofall, Each day has 86,400 seconds, Dont be afraid of wounds, Dont be made of glass, Be madeof steel, Lets help ourselves, Strong love life, Speed is power.

Interview
Is fashion your passion? To me, fashion means keeping true to
who you are. But due to heavy commer-
cialization and pressure to fit in, I thinkthe word fashion has lost its meaning.
Fashion should be about wearing the
clothes that make you feel happy, because
when you feel happy you become more
productive and spread positive energyaround you. I think as soon as something
becomes a trend, it tends to lose its power
to do this.
Do you have a signature style, and do you follow fashion trends?I love minimalism, and my designs reflect
it. I am attracted to monochromatic colors
and believe that timeless pieces offer ex-ceptional value. Although I stay informedabout fashion trends, they feel superficial
to me.
When did you fall in love withBata shoes?
Ive grown up with the Bata brand; Ive
been wearing Bata since I was a little girl.
For casual and dressy affairs, Bata was
the brand my family turned to. As Ive got-ten older, Ive fallen in love with the diver-
sity of Batas collections and know I cancount on Bata to have the perfect shoe for
nearly any occasion.
As a fashion designer, were beg-ging you to tell us whats hot!
I think personality is always hot; and
clothes and accessories are the best wayto express your personality. Too often we
think of clothes as simple garments that
cover our bodies. I want to encourage
people to think of clothing in a new way:
as an expression of themselves. And find-
ing just the right pair of shoes is essentialto creating your individual style.
Ive always bought

Why did you start blogging, and how do you keep in-spired?
Im creative to the core and al-
though I have a passion for design,
I also need a place where I can
write about the industry and share
my design projects. My inspira-
tion comes from everywhere. Life,
nature, philosophy, psychology, and
graphics get my creative juicesflowing. Honesty and intuition guideme. I also love browsing Pinterest.
I find a lot of inspiration there.
Do you have a favouritefashion designer or brand?
I love the simplicity of Jil Sander,
his dominant form amazes me
every time. I also admire the work
of Maison Martin Margiela, Acne
Studio, along with the young de-
signer Mary Katrantzou. Her prints
often inspire me.
We love shoes! What tips doyou have for choosing theright pair?
II often see people wearing stun-
ning clothing with a cheap or un-
suited pair of shoes. Id love your
readers to remember that if you do
not have the right shoes, even the
most expensive dress in the world
loses its value. The right shoe
is one that enhances your outfitinstead of detracting from it. Lots oftimes I choose my shoes first, and
then decide what outfit to wear-
thats how important shoes are! .
If we opened your closet, what kind of shoes wouldwe find?
Im crazy for boots and sandals
that have interesting heels. You
wouldnt find many ordinary shoes
in my closet. Again, shoes are an
expression of oneself- so mine
reflect my unique style. I encour-
age your readers to break away
from ordinary shoes and insteadselect shoes that they are genuinelyattracted to and mirror their per-
sonality.

Selecting the Perfect Boot
1. Material matters.Synthetic or cloth fabrics arefine for autumn, howeverfor winter you are definitelybetter off going for leatherwhich is more resistant.
2. Size is important. If you normally wearsize 38, moving up to size 39.If youre buying shoes with apointy toe, its especially agood idea to buy a slightlybigger size.
3. Consider your shape.
Choose boots according toyour figure. Tall slim womencan get away with any typeof boot. Women with fullerfigures will find high andnarrowly shaped bootsmost flattering. If youreslightly shorter, go forboots with high heelswhich optically lengthenyour figure.

A Bata bestseller every woman will appreciate comfort guaranteed even in high heels! The
success of Insolia shoes can be easily explained: they make your feet feel good! Thats be-cause Insolia shoes are designed to transfer weight from the front part of your foot to theheel, thus reducing excess strain on the front of your foot. On top of that, when you slip on apair of Insolia shoes, your feet are placed in an anatomically more natural position than withtraditional shoes. Less strain is placed on the knees, calves and feet- reducing tension andpain in the foot. Walking in high heel shoes with Insolia is an experience your feet deserve.
