The students at Iola Middle School have been busy raising money for the shelter! They set a goal to raise $1,000, and have reached their goal by selling lollipops and puppy chow, and Ona Chapman took pictures at the Winter Ball and sold them. Their money will be used to pay adoption fees for the animals who have been in the shelter the longest time. The student learning classes have been collecting cleaning supplies for the shelter.

Congratulations, Students! What would we do without you?

Thank you to everyone who brought bleach to the shelter. Janice reports they’ve gotten a lot. This is an item that’s always needed!

Your help is greatly appreciated!

“Scooby” is on display at the Sec-ond Chance store. It’s an original painting by Wes Dewey done for the benefit of the shelter. Scooby was one of the Dewey family dogs that was adopted from a local shelter.

Second Chance

Everyone is curious about how the Second Chance store is doing! The reason has to be that there have been so very many people involved in making it work. There are now 77 logged donors of items to the store, and over 1,400 items have been marked and tagged. We are pleased that some customers return every day just to see what’s been added. It’s been an enjoyable experience working there with lots of new and interesting people to meet and al-ways something to do. The faithful and hard-working volunteers are: Tuesday Ginny Hawk and Judy Laver Wednesday Hazel Jones Thursday Hazel Jones and Jim Smith Friday Wanda and Ray Shannon Glenda Helton Jeanne Cloud Saturday Fran Clay John and Glenda Helton A check from the Fundraising Committee was given to the shelter at the last Board meeting for $3,000—$2,200 from Second Chance. During the Christmas season the hours have been expanded when it’s busy downtown, and the store will be open on Christmas Eve from 9:00 ‘til noon. If you haven’t had a chance to come see the great gift items available in Second Chance and the Back Room, we hope you’ll come visit soon. Thank you, Everyone, for making this a successful venture.

Hercules

This beautiful little orange Calico male was rushed to the shelter by two young girls who had rescued him from the middle of the highway. He was battered, bleed-ing, and very still. We quickly took him to our vet, and hoped for the best. He was given the name “Hercules” because it was the strongest name we could think of. Hercules beat the odds, and he survived. This is a lov-ing, sweet young cat who just seems glad to be alive. Please come and meet Hercules. He is a very special, very lucky guy!
