The Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

November 19, 2017

Celebrating over a Century of Faith and Education

St. Barbara Parish is a Roman Catholic community celebrating a century of faith in the Bridgeport area. Our faith community welcomes all people, helping them grow spiritually through liturgy, prayer, and education, and socially through activities for all ages. Our school takes great pride in fostering these values in our children. We give witness to our faith by sharing with each other our God-given gifts and talents. We nourish and sustain our faith as a family by celebrating the sacraments and the presence of the risen Lord among us in the Eucharist.

DESIGNER PURSE NIGHT BINGO

THIS SATURDAY

Our annual Designer Purse Bingo takes place in the lower hall of the school this Saturday, November 25th. Games begin at 6:30 pm and

doors open at 4:00 pm. Bingo winners receive their choice of designer purses on display. Purses are original designer purses purchased from Carson’s. (They are not knock-offs.) Advance admittance price is $25; tickets purchased at the door are $30.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE

We at the St. Vincent de Paul Society can-not perform miracles, but we can help out those less fortunate.

How? With your help, by donating to our food pantry. Here’s a short list of some suggestions: - Canned goods, soups, fruits, vegetables, fish, meats, etc. - Dry products: crackers, pastas, rice, beans, potatoes, etc. These are just a few of the more popular items. Please use your judgment, but nothing that is perishable. This campaign will continue until Sunday, November 26, 2017. Bins are available in the rear of the church for your convenience. Out of ideas? A monetary gift is always appreciated. Envelopes are located on the table in back of church. A special collection will be taken up on Thanksgiving Day to help fund our food pantry. We thank you in advance for your anticipated coopera-tion. God bless you and your family.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!

“Blessed are you who fear the Lord.” — Psalm 128:1a

Fr. Artur, Fr. Andrzej and the staff of St. Barbara Parish wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. It’s a day for celebrating with family and a day for relaxing. Don’t eat too much turkey and pumpkin pie, and don’t watch too much football However, DO begin your day by thanking God for all your blessings by attending Mass in Church at 9:00 a.m.

ALL SOULS’ INTENTIONS

Please place All Souls’ Intention enve-lopes either in this Sunday’s collection or return to the rectory by Tuesday, No-vember 21st. We would like to include the list in next week’s bulletin.

My Brothers and Sisters, On this week before Thanksgiving Day, we gather together as a parish and as a nation to thank God for all of the good He has done for us. Most readings from the Gospel speak of gratitude to God. But, in order to be grateful to God, we must first have faith. God calls us to a life of faith and gratitude. St. Therese of Lisieux commented once in a letter to her sister Celine: “What most draws down graces from our dear Lord is gratitude, for if we thank Him for a gift, He is touched and hurries to give us ten more. And if we thank Him again with the same sincerity, what an incalculable multiplication of graces!” On this Thanksgiving Day, I would like to invite you, my dear friends, to ask Jesus for the gift of faith and gratitude, so that your lives may be filled with God’s grace, peace, joy, and love. My brothers and sisters, I would like to take this op-portunity to wish all of you and your families a Hap-py Thanksgiving. Both Fr. Andrzej and I reassure you of our prayers. We ask God to bless you and keep you and your families. Have a wonderful and Blessed Thanksgiving! Fr. Arthur

Wish List: As Thanksgiving is upon us, most of us take the time to give our homes a major cleaning and decorating for the upcoming Christmas season. So, too, it is with the Church. The church carpet des-perately needed to be cleaned, as did the parish of-fice carpeting and the rug in the Parish Center lead-ing to the chapel. This past week, the above men-tioned carpeting was cleaned. The total cost for this cleaning was $985. Also, many of you have noticed that the church was colder than normal the past couple of weeks. After several days of work by our boiler company, it was determined that the flame eye controls needed to be repaired. Because our boilers are no longer new, un-fortunately the problems that occur are sometimes cost-prohibitive. However, in order to keep the church and school warm, repairs needed to be done. Cost of repairing this equipment was approximately $5,500. If anyone is interested in donating toward these two projects, please see Fr. Arthur or Fr. Andrzej. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
