US Department of Labor

Awarded Expanding Business Engagement grants to 13 states, stressing the importance for expanding services to businesses

Prior to these grants DOL had sent out a TEN emphasizing the importance of Layoff Aversion by connecting businesses to services that can help in these situations

Why? EBE - Current data tells us:

• The workforce system has engaged 13,000 employers across the state which represents 8% of the potential companies

• 85% of all businesses employ less than 50 employees• Most companies do not have a Human Resource

Manager/Department• MOSES data represents job fill rate under 20% • In most cases Agency/Program front line staff are unaware

that a business is being services by other agencies • Services are not consistently bundled in a way that best

assists businesses

Challenges

• Identify staffing needs and resources• BSR’s availability to meet with companies • Businesses are often unaware of the services available to

assist them• Collaboration and cooperation between agencies• Business services follow up plan• Develop a system that will ensure that we are not

duplicating efforts with businesses• Performance metrics, crystal report and tracking activities

EBE Mission/Vision Statement

The goal of the Expanding Business Engagement (EBE) initiative is to enhance and align the services offered toMA businesses through State Workforce Development,Economic Development and Education entities in order to help MA businesses grow and thrive.

In order to achieve this goal we will:

• Build strong relationships across agencies and with businesses.

• Develop standard staff Business Service knowledge and competencies across relevant State agencies.

• Coordinate and link resources and information

As a result of our efforts; • More MA businesses will be aware of and utilize relevant

state resources and incentives.• There will be “no wrong door” for businesses to connect

with business support.• Services and outcomes will be captured to demonstrate the

impact of our efforts.
