contaminated soil from the
Elizabeth River.

a bin block system to build a
decanting system to dewater
dredge material.
The system successfully removed
the material from the water allowing
only clean sediment free water to be
discharged.

1,000’s of piles from
the Elizabeth River
– Many creosote
The project chose to
perform insitsu treatment
of lead contaminated
soil.
Using this method
reduced hazardous
waste.
Treatment was a lower
cost then shipping off as
hazardous waste.
The project utilized a self
contained tire wash system.
The system reduces the
risk of environmental
violations
The project utilized filter
fabric rapped bin blocks and
a stone berm for stock pile
protection.
Using this method provides
stronger protection then
wattles, hay bales, or silt
fence.
This method also needs little
to no maintenance and can
be used in high traffic areas.
The project used an

system to manage its

CLEAN THE BAY DAY ELIZABETH RIVER CLEAN-UP
Clean the Bay Day
− Annual Clean the Bay Day
− Sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, VPA and CSX
− Takes place along the Elizabeth River in Norfolk near Plum Point Park. Volunteers cleaned up along the river, Plum Point Park, ERT, and APM Beach.
− Approximately 3 tons of trash collected
− Approximately 200-250 Volunteers
− 60 - 70 SKW Employees and their Families
Homemade ice cream was made by
SKW’s own Henry Wood, and
Skanska’s own Mr. Gray.
The ice cream was
delicious and enjoyed
by everyone!
