Definition - What does CAPACITY mean?CAPACITY is the complex measurement. CAPACITY is the maximum amount of

data that may be transferred between network locations over a network path.

Estimating a data rate is based on transmission characteristics (e.g., traffic flow).

Commonly used data rates include: PEAK DATA RATE (PDR) SUSTAINED/THROUGHPUT DATA RATE

(SDR) MINIMUM DATA RATE (MDR):

PEAK DATA RATE (PDR) : It is the fastest data transfer rate

for a device.

typically available in short bursts(high-bandwidth transmission over a short period) during transfer activity.

SUSTAINED/THROUGHPUT DATA RATE (SDR) :

Throughput is the total data delivered in a specified amount of time.

Measuring in terms of weight /capacity and management "pockets"

Identify higher data transfer rates from the disk to the computer .

Used to improve the system performance.

Ex: NetGear

MINIMUM DATA RATE (MDR): It is the reverse of Peak Data Rate. Slowest data transfer rate for a device.

Ex: video bitrates(Streaming) / (buffering ) Applications/ USED:Transaction based application (ATM)Credit card processing(shopping).Banking application(deposit, withdraw).Distributed computing(task completion).
