This PowerPoint or PDF displays the worksheets that have varied situations (context, visual, equations, and other mathematical models) for children to work on. By completing these worksheets, children increase their foundational skills in the topic, which will help them with these standards and future mathematical topics.
1. If using a journal, have children present the worksheet and complete all the problems.
2. Or print the ‘Varied Practice Worksheet Slides’ for them to work on. Then, you can return to the PowerPoint or PDF to look at the keys to check their work.

InstructionsPart 11. Cut out the Sorting Cards on Worksheet 1.1.
2. Sort the cards into two different groups.
3. Describe the two groups and count the number in each group.
4. Which group has the most?
5. Which group has the fewest?
6. Repeat the entire process for Worksheet 1.2 and 1.3.
7. Extension activity: Combine the cards from Worksheets 1.1 and 1.2.
{No answer key is provided. There are several different solutions for each sort. It is interesting to see what children do that we might not expect!}

Materials NeededPrint Bar Graph Template (Worksheet 2.1) or use blank paper
InstructionsPart 21. Represent the data (from Worksheet 1.1) in a bar graph (use template or create own graph). A possible solution for a sort from Worksheet 1.1 is provided.
2. The child colors a box for each counted item (use any color) or puts an X in the box.
3. Repeat the entire process for the sorts from Worksheets 1.2 and 1.3.
