Develop Resources to Support Staff in Identifying the Palliative Care Needs of People with Dementia. Marie Lynch (IHF), Carmel Collins (IHF), Deirdre Shanagher (IHF), Mary Manning (HSE ) & Grainne Mc Gettrick (ASI)

People dying with dementia are a vulnerable group, who are at high risk of receiving a poor standard of end of life care (Sampson et al. 2006). Lliffe et al. (2013) reinforced the need to build capacity within the workforce who deliver end of life care to people with dementia. The first phase of this study completed a needs analysis and made key recommendations in promoting Dementia Palliative Care in Ireland (Building Consensus, 2013). However to date, these recommendations have not been constructed into an implementation framework.

Develop an implementation framework which incorporates the recommendations from the first phase of this project.

Implement this 3 year work plan to support good practice in meeting the palliative needs of people

with dementia.
