Creative Industries (CIs) profile

• 1.3m people working in the CIs in the UK

• a further 1m employed in creative occupations in other sectors

• an estimated 182,100 businesses, with an additional 0.5m sole traders or freelancers.

• micro-enterprises dominate the company base – 84% of companies in the CIs have fewer than 10 employees

• 32% of UK creative industry professionals are freelancers or self-employed, rising to 90% in some sub-sectors, compared to 14% across all other sectors

Creative Industries Council and Skills Group Creative Industries Council (CIC) to provide a forum for the

CIs and Government to engage in a joined up way and instigate industry led approaches to boosting the growth and competitiveness with Government facilitating and removing barriers where appropriate.

CIC has prioritised the importance of Talent and Skills as a key factor in the growth equation and Skillset has been tasked to lead this work with a core group.

We focused on cross cutting recommendations bringing benefit to all of the Creative Industries
