Challenges/difficulties

Students encouraged to reflect on their learning through assignments, such as project work and journal writing (reading journal)

All students completed oral and written work related to reflection.

They made summaries of the learning as reviews of

what they had acquired in the lesson. Their sharing

in class did not only give them more speaking and

listening practice but also provided information to

teachers to make adjustments to their teaching.

S3 Language Arts - LAT

In today's Language Arts lesson, I have

learnt more about the poetic skill of

personification. Besides, I have also had a

revision on similes and metaphors. In addition, I

have got to know more about analyzing the

pattern of a poem. I think these techniques are

not only useful in reading or writing poems, but

are useful to make other types of writing like

letters or stories, more interesting and literary as

well.

Page 40: Developing Students’ Self-Reflection · Enclosed please find my insignificant donation to the school’s redevelopment project as a token of thanks to the priceless years in Ying

S3 Language Arts - LAT

I have learnt many names of animals, such as

parasitic wasp, gorilla, chimpanzee, leopard and

so on, and also some interesting facts about

them which I have never heard of before.

Moreover, I have learnt some new words and

phrases like ewe, robe, embrace, to sniff out,

equivalent to and capable of doing something.

These words and phrases can make speaking

or writing more realistic and lifelike.

Page 41: Developing Students’ Self-Reflection · Enclosed please find my insignificant donation to the school’s redevelopment project as a token of thanks to the priceless years in Ying

S3 Language Arts - LAT

In the coming lessons, I hope to learn more

about animals so that I can increase my

knowledge about the nature. I wish to learn

more new phrases and expressions so as to

improve my speaking and writing to a more vivid

and literary state. I wish to be able to express

meanings in more different ways so that my

speeches and writings will be more interesting

and rich in the range of vocabulary used.

Thank you Mandy for writing your reflection to me. I

hope you can still manage to follow the lessons, as

sometimes I might be conducting the lessons at a

rather fast pace. Please let me know whether you

would like me to explain thoroughly. Just feel free.

How do you find the lessons we had these weeks?

Without referring to the text, do you understand how

to analyze the writer’s style in the story? Come and

let me know if you have any queries.

From an S6 graduate 20 August 2012

Being a 2012 S6 graduate, I am writing to extend my

heartfelt thanks to Ying Wa.

I might seem an anonymous student at school and

had few outstanding ECA or academic

records. However, deep down my heart, I am very

grateful that the school has always provided us a safe

haven and hub for learning. Not only did Ying Wa

teach us how to excel in academics, but also how to

be a graceful lady……

Page 63: Developing Students’ Self-Reflection · Enclosed please find my insignificant donation to the school’s redevelopment project as a token of thanks to the priceless years in Ying

Apart from the exceptional teachers I encountered

in Ying Wa, I have also made best friends here

whom I share my joy and sorrow with.

Ying Wa has taught me invaluable lessons in how to

live a bright and beautiful life. I sincerely hope that

the tradition of assemblies and speeches can be

passed on for generations. Sometimes you won’t

know how influential a speech or an assembly can

be until we rewind our life.

Page 64: Developing Students’ Self-Reflection · Enclosed please find my insignificant donation to the school’s redevelopment project as a token of thanks to the priceless years in Ying

Enclosed please find my insignificant donation to the

school’s redevelopment project as a token of thanks

to the priceless years in Ying Wa. The money is

actually my first ever salary (to be precise, my

allowance) to the internship I had this summer. I

wish every success of Ying Wa and I will pray for a

wonderful new campus for my “師妹”.

I had never imagined how significant and influential

Ying Wa would be until after graduation. The

feelings are indescribable in words.

Dear Mrs. Lee,

I still remember the assemblies last year when

you shared with us your agony and worries

about the redevelopment project. It is hard to

imagine that we’re in this decanting campus now.

Time really flies. Students now may not thank

you for what you did but I’m sure those in the

future would thank you for your effort and

energy put in this project that benefits them as if

I thank Miss Davies for coming to Hong Kong

years before. It will worth it. Mrs. Lee, thank you!
