What is Developmental TIPS?

Do the main paragraph as audio.[Insert a series of pictures as a movie that show a baby in the NICU and then a series of pictures at a clinic.] Narration: Developmental TIPS is coordinated through Munroe-Meyer Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in collaboration with your babys hospital. Your nurse, with your permission, will refer your baby to TIPS while you are in the NICU. Once you and your baby are at home, you will receive information about follow-up and your babys first assessment will occur when they are 6 months adjusted age. As video ends, link for Adjusted Age pops up.

2Why should my baby participate?two important reasons: Your baby was admitted to the NICU for several days or more. This means your babys condition was serious enough at birth that health and development should be monitored more closely than most infants. Concerns addressed early often can be resolved much more satisfactorily than those that remain unresolved until later in life. Sometimes it can be reassuring just to hear that your baby is doing fine. Developmental TIPS can help to monitor your babys development through regular developmental follow-up once you get home.

OK - Slowly fade in the points made; fade in then out, then all3Why is follow-up important? Early experience plays a crucial role in young childrens brain development.

Early identification of developmental problems and participation in early intervention programs maximizes positive outcomes for children.Developmental TIPS has served as a resource to children and families for over 10 years.Early Development Network (Nebraska) and Early Access (Iowa) are the early intervention services in our area.

Narration: The development of the brain is a lifetime process but there is growing evidence that the environment plays a crucial role in young childrens brain development. So it is very important that we help to support young childrens development during these early years. This means that we want to identify, at the earliest, any potential delays in development and support parents in finding services in their community to support their childs development. Developmental TIPS follow-up can help determine if your baby would benefit from additional services. Early intervention services are available in both Iowa and Nebraska and are free to parents.]

On the right: INSERT A SERIES OF PICTURES OF CHILDREN at 6, 16, 24 and 36 months that rotate spontaneous as the following is narrated. Have each statement and a photo come up as it is said.

4Parent TestimonialThough she was at higher medical risk (26 weeks gestational age and two pounds, one ounce) than her four pound premature brother, Meah has had better developmental outcomes. Because of TIPS her needs for developmental services were identified earlier. At just 16 months of age, she was referred to Omaha Public Schools for speech therapy. [Sharon, her mother says: Its amazing how far shes come, I can really see the difference between her and her brother. There was a lot more support with her than with him.]Want to know more about TIPS here is a recently published article, Big Lessons from Little Ones.

Preemie Meah was identified for speech therapy services at just 16 months due to TIPS. She has since graduated from Early Development Network services and now attends a Head Start program.

[Can we do Sharon or someone with permission to do as an audio?]5Over 10,000 babies & 10 years of ServiceDevelopmental TIPS has supportedbabies & familiesThanks to all our partners, Developmental TIPS has been able to serve children across Nebraska.
