He created the Dewey Decimal Classification when he was 21 years old!
Before Dewey invented his system of classification, each library organized their materials in their own way. Usually onlythe librarian was able to find specific materials.
The Dewey Decimal system is composed of 10 main categories.

Every book subject is assigned a number between 000 and 999.
This number is called the Call Number. The call number appears on the spine of the
book.
