Board members are elected by delegates at the Annual Meeting and each member serves a three-year term. When attending meetings and other industry events as a representative for DFA’s Board, directors receive a per diem of $500 per day. There are 54 directors drawn from the seven Areas. Dairying since 1964, Joyce and her husband milk 200 cows and farm 750 acres of corn, alfalfa, soybeans, small grain and grass hay. Joyce is chairman of DFA Cares Foundation and a member of Cattlemen’s Beef Board for her area, Pennsylvania Dairy Stakeholders, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association board, Pennsylvania Holstein Association and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program. She has been a farm column writer since 1980 for Lancaster Farming and The York Sunday News.

Keith started in the dairy business in 1981 and milks with his two sons. They also raise grain, sorghum and grass forages. He serves as a DFA representative on the Greater Southwest Agency board. Keith has been a Hico School trustee for 15 years.

After 11 years in the construction field, Bill returned with his wife to his family’s farm to start their dairy career and raise their two children. He milks 80 Holsteins on the farm’s 100 acres and raises corn for silage and grass hay for haylage. Bill served as a director on Dairylea Cooperative’s board for more than 20 years, most recently as chairman. He also served on the board’s executive committee for six years and as first vice president for four years. Bill currently serves as co-chairman of DFA’s Northeast Area Council and sits on DFA’s Executive Committee.

Bruce is a fifth-generation farmer and has been dairying since 1980. In partnership with his son, Brandon, Bruce milks 50 cows and grows corn, soybeans and alfalfa on 350 acres. Bartley Dairy Farm, which has been in the family since 1849, also raises its own replacements. Bruce currently serves as a director on the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program board. Bartley Dairy Farm was recognized as a 2014 Dairy of Distinction by the Northeast Dairy Farm Beautification Program.

As the fifth generation to farm on his family’s land, David and his sons milk 220 cows and operate a custom forage-harvesting business. David’s family has been a part of DFA and its predecessor cooperatives for more than 89 years. He has served on the Northeast Area Council for more than 10 years. David is serving his second term as a director on the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board and is a director of the Deer Creek Scenic River Advisory Board. In addition, he is the DFA representative on Dairy One’s board of directors and was a member of Dairylea Cooperative Inc.’s loan transaction committee since 2008. He also is a life member of the University of Maryland Alumni Association and a member of the Holstein Association USA, the Deer Creek Watershed Association and the Maryland Farm Bureau. David also serves as an elder and trustee at his church.

Glen has been in the dairy business for more than 37 years and milks 300 registered Jerseys on 360 acres. Glen is president of the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association (UDIA), the Regional United Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the American Dairy Association of South Carolina. He also has served on the UDIA and Dairy Management Inc. (DMI) boards since 2012. At DMI, he serves on the executive committee, and the research and insight committees. He is an active committee member of the South Carolina Jersey Cattle Club, the South Carolina Farm Bureau Dairy Committee and the South Carolina National Animal Identification System. Glen previously served on the Advisory Committee of the Dairy Records Processing Center in Raleigh, N.C., on the board of directors for Edisto Milk Producers and is past president of the South Carolina Jersey Cattle Association, among others. He is the 2014 winner of the National American Jersey Cattle Association Distinguished Service Award. In 2012, he was named Laurens County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year, and in 2006, he was named Laurens County Agriculturalist of the Year.

In partnership with his father, Willem milks 6,000 cows on two dairies. They also grow alfalfa, winter wheat and corn on the farm’s 3,500 acres. Willem has served on the Western Area Council since its formation, chairs the Area’s Marketing and Transportation Committee and is a member of the California Environmental Justice Fund. He previously served on the boards of Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers & Ranchers program, California’s Milk Producers Council and on the Tulare chapter of the Antique Historical Truck Society. In 2000, Willem was named an Outstanding Young Farmer & Rancher for California and was among the top four in the United States for Farm Bureau’s Outstanding Young Farmer & Rancher. The De Boers’ dairies received Business of the Year in 2007 and the family was named a DFA Member of Distinction in 2008.

David, a fifth-generation dairy farmer, began dairying in 1968. He milks 750 registered Jerseys in partnership with his brother Greg and nephew Ben on their 1,500-acre operation. They grow 100 percent of the dairy’s forages, some wheat and corn for grain and raise all replacement heifers. David has served on DFA’s Board since 2012 and serves on the finance committee. He is a past president of the American Jersey Cattle Association and a recipient of the association’s Young Jersey Breeder Award. David is an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Wyoming.

In partnership with his son and another partner, Mike milks 3,000 cows and grows corn for silage and alfalfa hay on 1,000 acres. Mike has served on the Mountain Area Council since its formation and on the board of one of DFA’s predecessor cooperatives. He serves as first vice chairman of the Mountain Area Council, co-chairman of the Boys and Girls Club of Weld County’s agriculture committee and is active in Colorado’s Political Action Committee. He recently retired from the Western Dairy Association board.

Travis, a fifth-generation dairy farmer, began dairying full time in 1999 on his operation, Stonyvale, Inc. He milks 990 cows in partnership with nine family members on their 2,500-acre operation. They raise all their own replacements, grow their own forages and are in the process of transitioning the farm to no-till. Stonyvale, Inc. houses Maine’s first methane digester, which produces enough electricity to power as many as 800 households and heat 300 New England homes. Travis is a member of the Maine Agricultural Water Board. He served on the Governor’s Task Force on Sustainability of the Dairy Industry in Maine in 2003. The family received the Maine Dairy Farm Family of the Year award in 2008.

Jim and his wife, Deb, milk 160 cows and raise all their replacement heifers on 500 acres of farmland and rented pasture. Jim, a third-generation dairy farmer, first entered into a 10-year partnership with his brother-in-law before he and his wife built Eschliman Family Dairy in 1999. Jim served on the Central Area Council’s Audit Committee and Scheduling Committee. He is also chairman of the Nebraska Dairy Industry Development Board, spent six years on the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, and is a member of Lower Loup Natural Resource District Board and the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s Advisory Committee. Jim previously served as a DFA delegate. He also is a 2010 recipient of DFA’s Central Area Gold Quality Award and received the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s Gold Dairy Award. Jim and Deb have six children and 15 grandchildren.

Larry and his family started dairying in Muleshoe, Texas, in 1978 with one heifer that calved on the truck. He, along with his son, James, and his daughter, Lela, now milk 4,000 cows in three barns and farm 3,500 acres. Larry is a member of the Texas Association of Dairymen, serves on the National Dairy Board and is a proud grandfather.

Don milks 100 Holsteins and farms 650 acres with his wife, son and daughter-in-law. He serves as president of American Dairy Association of Indiana Inc. He also is secretary/treasurer of Steuben County Rural Electric Co-op and a member of the United Dairy Industry Association board and Cattlemen’s Beef Board. Don is former president of the Steuben Dairy Herd Improvement Association and former secretary of the DeKalb and Steuben Artificial Breeding Association. He also served six years on the National Dairy Board.

Buster, his wife, Beverly, and son, Jason, operate two neighboring dairies — one Jersey and one Holstein. He is chairman of the Lee County Water Board. Buster has been the recipient of the New Mexico Agriculturalist of the Year Award, received the New Mexico Entrepreneurial Award and was honored by the College of the Southwest and the Free Enterprise Award.

Alan, a third-generation dairy farmer, is in partnership with his father, brothers, uncle and cousin, and milks 6,500 cows on two dairies. They raise all replacements on a feedlot and grow hay, barley, wheat, potatoes and corn on 8,000 acres. Alan currently serves as secretary for the Mountain Area Council. He also served as president of Idaho’s Dairy Herd Improvement Association from 1993–1996.

Jerrel and his wife have been dairying since 1984 and milk 80 cows at their farm, Fair Hope Farms. They also manage a poultry operation. Vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors, Jerrel is a member of DFA’s Executive Committee and co-chairman of the Northeast Area Council. Jerrel also serves as treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and is a member of the United Dairy Industry Association and Dairy Management Inc. boards.

Brian owns and operates Tuleview Holsteins with his family. Together, they milk 2,000 cows on three different dairies and farm 1,500 acres of corn, alfalfa and wheat. They also raise all of their own replacement heifers. Brian has been active on many boards, currently serving on National Milk Producers Federation’s board as well as chairman of DFA’s Mountain Area Council. He served in the past with Utah Dairymen’s Association, Bear River Valley Co-op and several agricultural-related committees for Utah State University. He is past president of the South Box Elder County Farm Bureau.

Todd, a third-generation dairyman, milks 800 cows on 1,100 acres at Hathorn Farms LLC. He began managing the dairy in 1980 and introduced three younger partners to the business in 2013. Todd serves on the board for Dairy Marketing Services and as a director for the Rochester Health Foundation and for the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council. He previously served as second vice president of Dairylea Cooperative’s board of directors and was a member of the executive committee and compensation committee. He previously has served as president of the Eagle Board of Managers and was a prior-zoning board member. Hathorn Farms LLC has been named a Dairy of Distinction by the Northeast Dairy Farm Beautification Program since 1980 and has been recognized by the Empire State Milk Quality Council with the Super Milk Award since 1998.

Dean’s Handyhills Farm is a seventh-generation bicentennial farm, owned and operated as a joint venture with his brother, nephew and their wives. The main farm consists of milking and grain facilities. Combined with patriarchal and grand patriarchal farms and rented land, Handyhills milks 100 cows and has 1,200 acres of corn, beans, alfalfa and grass for forage. Dean serves as chairman of his town planning board and is a graduate of the LEAD New York Program.

Bill and his family farm 750 acres of corn, soybeans and alfalfa and milk 85 registered Holsteins. Bill serves on the Clark County Economic Development Committee and is president of the Greenwood Schools Board of Education. He was honored with the FFA Outstanding Service Award for Alumni.

Neil is a fourth-generation dairy farmer taking ownership of the family farm in 1979. Neil milks 150 cows, farms 160 acres of wheat for hay and raises all of his own replacements on Neil Hoff Dairy. He serves as chairman of Dairy Max, chairman of United Dairy Industry Association’s board and is on the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy board representing Dairy Management Inc.

Steve milks 275 cows and farms 750 acres of corn and alfalfa hay with his wife, Mary, and son, Scott, and Scott’s wife, Molly. Steve was recently appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board. He also is a member of Rep. John Kline’s (R-Minn.) Agricultural Advisory Board and is vice chairman of DFA’s Central Area Council.

Byron and his brother farm 2,000 acres of land and milk 230 cows. They grow wheat, corn, alfalfa, milo and soybeans. Byron has served on the Midwest Dairy Association’s division board since 1998 and on its corporate board for eight years. He also served on the United Dairy Industry Association (UDIA) board as a delegate for 10 years and one term on the National Dairy Board. In addition, Byron received the UDIA Service Award in 2010 for 10 years of dedicated service.

Chris and his wife, Mary, own and operate two Holstein dairies in Fort Morgan, Colo., where they milk 5,400 cows and farm 900 acres. Chris serves as vice president of the Fort Morgan Reservoir and Irrigation Co. board, secretary of the Jackson Lake Board, chairman of the Mountain Area Council’s political action committee, and is on the Morgan County Farm Bureau. Chris also served on the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission for six years.

Ralph’s dairy farm has been in the family for 125 years. He and his sons milk 150 Holsteins on 333 acres, and their operation was named the Vermont Dairy Farm of the Year in 2006. They received a similar honor, the Franklin County Dairy of the Year, in 1983. Ralph is president of St. Albans Cooperative Creamery, Inc., and a member of the New England Dairy Promotion Board. He also is a member of the Cooperatives Working Together committee on National Milk Producers Federation’s board. Ralph is a trustee for his church.

Urban began his career in dairy farming with his father. Along with two of he and his late wife, Judy’s, seven children, Urban milks 200 Holsteins and raises corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa on 900 acres. He serves on the National Dairy Board, is on the milk promotion board of the American Dairy Association/Dairy Council Mideast and the boards of the Mideast Milk Marketing Agency and Mid America Cooperative Board. In addition, Urban is chairman of Mercer Landmark Cooperative.

Chuck farms 1,100 acres and milks 50 cows with his father, Charles. He is a fifth-generation dairy farmer and has been dairying since 1984. Chuck and his father raise their own heifers and grow corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, grass hay, alfalfa and graze their herd. Chuck is a member of the American Dairy Association Mideast board, the Ohio Dairy Producers Association board, the Ohio Agricultural Council, the Ohio Farm Bureau dairy advisory committee and the Ohio Forage and Grasslands Council. In 2010, Moellendick Farm, LLC earned a Gold Quality Award from DFA’s Mideast Area. Chuck coaches basketball in his community and surrounding areas and has done so for the past 31 years.

George serves as vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors, is a member of DFA’s Executive Committee and chairman of the Western Area Council. Randy and his wife, Jan, operate Mooney Dairy. Randy was elected chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors in 2009 and is a member of DFA’s Executive Committee. He also is chairman of National Milk Producers Federation and serves on the boards of several dairy organizations, including Missouri State Milk Board, Dairy Management Inc., Hiland Dairy and the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy. In 2010, Randy received the Missouri Dairy Hall of Honors Foundation Dairy Leader Award, and in 2011, he received the Missouri Governors Award for Agricultural Achievement.

Pete is in partnership with two brothers and farms 1,700 acres of alfalfa, corn and rye at Hillside Dairy. The partners celebrated 99 years in the dairy business in Nevada in 2014. Pete is also in partnership with two of his sons on their 500-cow Jersey dairy. Pete is vice chairman of the Churchill County Commission, vice chairman of the Churchill Economic Development Authority and chairman of CC Communications, the county-owned phone company.

Doug farms 2,000 acres of corn, soybeans and alfalfa and milks 200 cows with three sons. Doug is chairman of the Central Area Council and a member of DFA’s Executive Committee. He serves on the Dairy Management Inc. board and is a director with the United Dairy Industry Association. In addition, he serves on the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board, and the board of National Milk Producers Federation and the Nebraska Dairy Council. Doug is the recipient of the Proud to be a Nebraska Farmer Award.

Dwight, his wife, son and daughter-in-law milk 325 cows on their 1,000-acre dairy farm. He serves on the Michigan Governor’s TB Task Force, Michigan State University’s (MSU) livestock stakeholder’s committee, United Dairy Industry of Michigan and MSU’s agricultural programs advisory board, as well as the MSU Animal Industry Initiative. Dwight is community group president of the Michigan Farm Bureau and a member of its legislative candidate selection committee. He was appointed to the Governor’s Dairy Marketing Committee, where he serves as treasurer. He also is involved with the FFA Alumni Association, as well as with the FFA chapter at the local high school and at the state level.

Wayne and his son, Eric, have an integrated farm operation with dairy, crop farming and cattle ranching. Their operation has grown to include 100,000 acres of farm and ranch land with three dairies housing 10,500 cows in Clovis, N.M., and Canyon, Texas. Eric is now the managing partner of the dairies. Wayne is first vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors, a member of DFA’s Executive Committee and chairman of the Southwest Area Council. He is on National Milk Producers Federation’s board and U.S. Dairy Export Council.

Frank, along with his wife, Kim, owns and operates Ponterio Holsteins. The operation consists of 120 registered Holsteins, milking three times per day, and 500 tillable acres of corn, alfalfa and grass hay. He raises all of the replacement heifers and all of the bull calves to finish market weight for beef. Frank is secretary of DFA’s Budget and Finance Committee and a past recipient of Jackson County Conservationist of the Year Award. In 2009, Frank and Kim hosted the Jackson County Dairy Breakfast, and for the last two years, the operation was recognized for having the highest per-cow milk production in Jackson County. Frank is a member of the local FFA alumni organization and hosts an annual antique tractor ride to raise scholarship funds for FFA participants.

Larry, along with his wife and daughter, milks 140 cows, grows corn silage and hay, and raises a small herd of beef cows on 700 acres. Larry is chairman of the Missouri Dairy Association and serves on the board for the Midwest Dairy Association. Active in the industry, he serves on the county Farm Bureau board, is chairman of the congressional agriculture advisory committee, and previously served on the National Dairy Board. He was inducted into the Missouri Cooperative Hall of Fame in 2010 and also has been honored with the FFA American Farmer Degree and as an Honorary Star Farmer. Terry is president of the Henry County Farm Bureau, state director of the Kentucky Farm Bureau, a member of the board of directors for the American Dairy Association of Kentucky and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association and associate director of the Kentucky Dairy Development Council. He also is an adviser for the Kentucky Milk Commission and a commissioner and secretary on the Henry County Planning and Zoning Board.

George was honored with Virginia Tech’s 2010 Distinguished Dairyman of the Year Award, 2008 Shenandoah Valley Soil and Water Conservation District Clean Water Farm Award, 2008 Department of Conservation and Recreation Bay Friendly Clean Water Farm Award and was grand winner of the 2009 Shenandoah Basin Award. He serves on the boards of the Virginia American Dairy Association, United Dairy Herd Improvement Association and Virginia State Dairymen Association. George is also a trustee of Trinity Lutheran Church and a board member of the Rockingham Community Alliance for Preservation.

Brian and his wife, Ranell, operate New Generation Dairy with 1,200 cows and farm 2,700 acres growing corn, beans, wheat and alfalfa. Brian is a fourth-generation farmer and has been active in DFA’s Young Cooperator and Emerging Leader programs. He is the vice president of Evansville Young Dairymen. In 2010, Brian received the Indiana Dairy Producer of the Year Award.

He is vice chairman of the DFA Cares Foundation, vice chairman of the New York Milk Promotion Board and chairman of the Cornell Food Science Subcommittee. He also is a member of the New York Milk Marketing Advisory Council and Northeast Cooperative Council, where he formerly served as president. In addition, Ed is a delegate to the North American and European Union Agricultural Conference and serves on three National Milk Producers Federation committees: immigration, environment and scholarship.

Ron is the managing partner in a 2,300-cow, family-owned dairy in La Salle, Colo. In addition to raising corn and alfalfa, he also runs a cow-calf operation and small feed lot. A second-generation farmer, Sandy operates Stauffer Farms LLC in partnership with his two sons. They milk 1,700 cows on 3,000 acres, raise all their forages and a small amount of grain corn. Within DFA, Sandy serves on the Northeast Area Council Restructuring Committee and the Agri-Max advisory board. He also is active with the National Dairy Board, the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council promotion board and his local Farm Bureau. Previously, he has served as treasurer of Dairy Management Inc. and as a member of his county soil and water board.

Steve joined his family’s registered Holstein operation in 1978 as a third-generation dairyman. Steve and his family milk 350 registered Holsteins and market large numbers of bulls to producers throughout the country. Steve serves on the executive council of the World Dairy Expo board and as vice president of Midwest Dairy Association–Kansas City division board. Over the years, Steve has made 17 trips to 11 different countries to judge Holstein shows and conduct management seminars. He is a past board member of the National Dairy Shrine, Kansas Dairy Herd Improvement Association and Kansas Holstein Association, and former president of Mid-America Dairymen Young Cooperators and the Kansas Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers program. He also is past chairman of the First Christian Church board and a former member of the Kansas State University alumni board.

In the dairy business since 1970, Jerry farms 476 acres of land and milks 200 cows. He raises all of his own replacements and grows coastal Bermuda hay as well as wheat and rye grass for winter grazing. Jerry is a member of the Dairy Max promotion board and serves on the DFA Cares Foundation board. In 2011, he was named Hopkins County Agriculturalist of the Year by the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce. He previously served on the boards of the Texas Association of Dairymen, Texas Beef Council and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

Case milks about 1,150 cows at three locations with his brother and son. They raise corn silage, as well as winter forage for silage, in addition to alfalfa. Case is active in his community, serving as chairman of the board for California Ammonia Co. and on the board of Sacramento County Farm Bureau. He is also on the board of the California Dairy Environmental Justice Fund and is a former state board member of the California Farm Bureau Federation.

David, a third-generation farmer, began dairying in 1980 and became a partner at Cabhi Farm in 1988. Today, in partnership with his brother, he milks 210 cows and grows alfalfa and corn on 525 acres. David has been active in the industry and in Dairylea Cooperative, which merged with DFA in April 2014. He served as vice president of the Dairylea board and sat on Dairylea’s resolutions committee, the 2020 Dairylea committee and participated in the Dairylea Young Farmers program. He is active in his community as well, serving on the Farm Bureau board of directors and as the education chairman at his church. He also works with the church’s administrative board and with his local FFA Advisory Committee. He was awarded the Pride of Dairylea award during 2006 and Cabhi Farm was named a Dairy of Distinction by the Northeast Dairy Farm Beautification Program for 25 years.

Charles and his son, Jason, milk 140 registered cows and 150 heifers and raise 850 acres of cropland. Charles also manages a feed-bagging business, sells seeds and completes approximately 1,000 acres of custom work for his neighbors. Charles is a member of the local, state and national Holstein Associations and of the following cooperatives: Frontier-Servco F.S. and Land O’ Lakes. He serves on the Central Area Milk Producers Cooperative board and is an alumnus of Jefferson County’s Future Farmers of America’s dairy promotion. Charles also is active in his community and has served on the Lake Mills school board and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was appointed by the governor of Wisconsin to the Wisconsin Property Relief Commission and appointed by the state’s secretary of agriculture to develop pesticide regulation rules.
