TUESDAY JUNE 5, 2012 – Surrounding Area
Attendees: Panel Members Stella Swanson, Gunter Muecke, Jamie Archibald; Secretariat Members Kelly McGee, Debra Myles, David Haddon
Purpose: Introduction of Panel Members to the area south, surrounding and north of the Bruce Nuclear site
Chronology: The attendees departed Kincardine in the mid-afternoon and travelled in a single passenger van to view the following locations:
1. Through Tiverton to Inverhuron Provincial Park 2. Area directly surrounding the Bruce Nuclear site3. Brucedale Conservation Area 4. MacGregor Point Provincial Park5. Port Elgin

WWMF Overview• Established in 1974 as a centralized site for
processing and storage of all OPG’s L&IL radioactive waste
• Also hosts Western Used Fuel Dry Storage Facility
• WWMF (L&ILW) currently consists of:• A radioactive waste incinerator and low-force compactor• 12 low level storage buildings (LLSBs)• Various in-ground storage structures• 1 steam generator storage building• 1 refurbishment waste storage building

Low Level Waste
• Consists of contaminated materials which can be handled without shielding• Contact dose rates up to 10 mSv/hr on receipt, but generally much lower
