Although the forgery is quite apparent because ofthe poor quality of background print and the edge of the counterfeit page clearly visible near the binding (both shown below), there are other detection points worth noting. There are two versions of the Mexican G series passport in circulation, most readily distinguished by the differing lengths of the barcode and whether the passport number printed at the top right of the biographical page matches the number perforated through the interior pages. The two versions also contain variations in the data label formatting (e.g. location and capitalization of the data labels). In this document, the forger has combined the data formatting of the initial version ofthe G series passport (shorter barcode, printed/perforated passport numbers do not match) with the second version G series (longer barcode, matching printed/perforated passport numbers). Also, in the second version of the G series passport, the words “caducidad” and “titular” should be capitalized, and the date of issuance should be printed as “Fecha de emisión” rather than “Fecha de expedición” as in the first version G passport (shown at left).
